Here's what I know on Mark Matthews...

Idk of any backstory.

I'm sure one of these dudes on here is his PR manager & can give you the Souf Flowrida azzkisser version as to why he doesn't wanna come here. But quite frankly Idgaf.

Mario & Mirabal just sent our starting RT to the league at the #10 spot, then followed that up with landing the #1 ranked OT in the Nation for the 26 class & will be starting him at LT as a True Frosh.

There are very few on the board who are more skeptical & have their own opinions regardless of the circumstances than me, and I've repeatedly said that OL is not & will not be an issue under Mario, doesn't matter who signs here or not.

I said it earlier in this thread & I'll say it again, Miami is at the very top of the totem pole when it comes to OL development. It's Miami, Oklahoma, Iowa & Notre Dame, everybody is getting in where they fit in.

If an OL particularly an OT, doesn't wanna play for Mario/Mirabal, it's on him, not us. It's not a loss, or a miss, or anything of that nature. It's simply a primadonna who wants rose petals thrown at his feet, but unfortunately that's not the makeup of this program anymore. We're no longer desperate.

We will win & thrive without players like this.

If people wanna wash his balls just because he goes to STA, just let them.

All I got left to say to them is, here's some Old spice,

Get to scrubbing.
Keep this on repeat

I think dude just doesn’t want to stay home and play for UM. We’ve had local players doing this since forever. There’s always going to be a Buster Rhymes or Marvin Jones.

We’re national in our recruiting. People are putting too much emphasis on local losses. How about the 5 star locals we just took from USC and Ole Miss???

And on the O line of all areas, people are concerned??? 🤣
Great points.
Donte Wright was committed to UGA, and now Miami, while interested in Oregon. What is missing???
How about the (2) Big Ten schools in his backyard? Did USC and UCLA both miss on him, or just maybe Donte wanted to live for 3-4 years outside of SoCal.

We need to stop looking at recruiting pretending to be the player or his parent and asking “what would I do”, because literally none of us walk in the shoes of that player or his family. Wish this young man the best, or forget about him. But he isn’t worth losing your minds over. Especially not at his position.

I’m not stressing this recruitment but man some of the narratives you dudes invent to soothe yourselves are ABSOLUTELY ****EN WILD!
5 stars elsewhere are 3 stars in South Florida

But

5 stars in South Florida are actually 3 stars

The "bad look" comments are so ignorant lol.

Whats the bad look? We reached a national title, heavily invested and recruited the player, sent a player to the first round of the draft at the position this year, offered just as much NIL as anyone else and the player still wants to go suck the ****s of *** cheerleaders?

Thats a bad look for sure, just not on the coaches. South florida will always have major **** riders who want to leave town. It is what it is. Its not like this staff isnt recruiting them to the fullest.

Whether it's a "bad look" or not, what exactly were Mario and Mirabal supposed to do that they didn't? What magic combination of words were they not using that would have closed the deal?

Do you think they didn't point out they guys that just got drafted? Do you think they didn't remind him (if they for some reason needed to) we just we just beat TAMU and played for the championship? Do you think they didn't remind him he could play in front of friends and family every home game and drive 45 minutes for mom's home cooking every day off if he wanted? Do you think we didn't offer a competetive NIL #? (by all accounts we did) Do you think Mario didn't stay on the kid with same maniacal focus and energy he does for every wanted recruit? Short of Jedi Mind Tricks, what was he supposed to do?

Some kids are gonna go their own way for whatever reasons. No logical selling points or even $$ are gonna keep them home. He's one of them. Be mad about it if you want.

Exactly, thats why I dont understand the bad look comments. Ppl expecting Mario to kidnap the kid and forge his signature on signing day or some ****.

We lost a recruiting battle? Sure. Bad look? Not even close.

He probably will get fired in two more years. Their expectations are unrealistic

The recruiting rankings as well creates a ton of pressure. Even if they are wrong on giving some high rankings that don’t deserve it, no one will view it that way. He will get blamed cause it’s his evals, so good luck with that. Ain’t our problem we will beat tf out of them regardless

Pause

Dead *** though, how many are just jags? Crazy numbers

I bet this Gourdine DB we got plays like a 6 star. He not getting the respect he deserves, when you see his film the only reason he ain’t a 5 star is cause he ain’t 30 feet tall.

This is exactly what I've been thinking. Between you and @Da Jumbo Mutombo, it's spot on. Wanna be disappointed we lost the kid (presumably)? Go for it. Blame Mario? No. Bad look? Huh? WTF does that even mean?

I could be wrong here but I’m sure some people regret not being on Miami during the 99-04 era

We’ve missed tons of recruits over the years because we were *** on the field, recruited like ****, and/or took the cheap route

We are none of those things anymore so yeah of course landing this kids is the way to go, but if we miss these days it’s not for lack of effort or investment

That's 1. Point still valid. Not too great historically.
Tyler Steen is a starting guard for the Eagles right now. Bobby Hart started 8 games for the Chargers last year. Marcus Gilbert was a second rounder who started 87 games as an offensive tackle.

STA is a product of tri-county South Florida. Their best positions are tier 1: DB, Dline and WR; then tier 2: LB and RB; and lastly tier 3: TE, QB and Oline. This is reflective of the best positions in South Florida at large (with QB being on the rise, into tier 2, recently because of Lamar Jackson and Mendoza, and a bunch of NFL backups).

Where are their busts? It’s not like there have been a slew of highly rated STA Oline who have gone to Miami or elsewhere in the 21st century. So, your assertion isn’t saying anything since there is little precedent for a top 150, like Linder was, yet alone top 5, like Matthews is, offensive lineman.
