Gus Edwards through 4 games

I never understand why people need to say a player is either great or he sucks. Gus was in the middle - just a solid RB, but nothing special.

He was a 3 Star FB/RB hybrid coming out of HS, and he pretty much played like a 3 Star. He didn't do more or less than anyone should have expected.

He's having a solid year all things considered with how awful the Rutgers offense is.

I was upset when both Yearby and Edwards left. But I don't see how either would be materially better options than Homer, Choc or Burns as backups to Walton. Of the three former Miami players at Rutgers, K Hester is the one we could have used the most this year, followed by Washington. Edwards would have the lest impact to outcomes this year.

Yearby was pretty **** good every game he played. Was more effective as a runner than Walton but got benched because he couldn't block.

The only thing we lost with Gus was depth.

But, Gus is playing alright this year. And the main thing for Gus is that he is playing power 5 ball, getting carries, and not riding the bench on our team. An athlete only gets a few years at this before it's over. I don't understand the hate. He gave us 4 years here.

I have no interest in hating on someone who chose to sign with UM, but I thinks its a fair statement to say that Gus Edwards was (is) simply not a D1 caliber running back. I used to joke and say that the next time Gus Edwards breaks a tackle will be the first broken tackle of his career. Still waiting for that.


In truth, he was a typical AL Golden Special. An un-athletic guy who looked the part but could not play it. He would show flashes against the bottom feeder teams and look outmatched by any decent team.

I do wish Gus Edwards the best in life. He was always a high character kid (to my knowledge). I hope he gets his degree and pursues a career of his choosing, but he was far from a UM caliber running back.
