Greg Simmons commits

Momma Duke disagrees

Come on you got 90 players on a team and another 50-100 being recruited. thats 150 now add in parents and its almost 500 people. Your gonna have a few people who have some words or clash sometimes.

She said " half the team would transfer if they didn't have to sit out ". That speaks loudly coming from her .

IMO , Al isn't the reason these kids are coming. I believe a bunch of these guys want to be Canes , regardless of the coach.

I always hear in recruiting " choose the school, not the coach. There's no guarantees the coach will be there".

Just look at Shaq and his dad, they're Canes, he didn't choose UM for the coach.

I met D. Lawson for the first time last weekend and while talking to him he told me the main reason he switched from Miami to Vtech, was that on his visit several current players at miami told him not to come to miami because Golden wasn't trustworthy and showed favoritism to certain players and they wished they hadn't committed to miami.

Earl Moore

Wasn't the same thing said in the locker room after the infamous brawl/shouting match bet. Freshmen & Upper class men?
EM? I thought Golden announced he'd be the new cornerstone of that nose tackle position...go figure.

I my opinion, after watching the highlights of Mr. Simmons, I think he has legitimate potential to be the best LB to ever play at Miami.

I am rarely given to hyperbole.

Rice of Donovan from central , I personaly rather Donovan Thompson, one of those two and we got the best linebacker class in the country

we taking 5 LB's this class?

Thats crazy 1/5 of the class is LBs are there not other needs...

I know for a fact that Simmons wants to redshirt his Freshman year. We need depth at LB. think last years OL we needed a lot and we went out and got a lot same for LB's this class.

Lb depth is awful. Grace or Kirby goes down it'll get ugly.

75% of these kids will not be in the class if Golden is still the coach by November.

Sincerely,

Travis Rudolph, Jordan Scarlett, Alex Collins, Keith Bryant, Dexter Williams, etc.

Hilarious stuff. Yeah....coaching changes never cause decommits...lmao.

I wanted Golden gone after last season, but when and if he leaves after this year, it will be as difficult for any coach, save Saban or Meyer, to hold this class together.

UM

Congrats to the kid.

What I'm about to say isn't specifically in reference to Simmons, even though I prefer Rice & Jean-Baptiste and would've preferred to see us remain patient at LB to see if we could land them. But you'd think one of the advantages of having so many elite early verbal commits is that the staff could afford to be selective with which recruits they accept commitments from, even though there will inevitably be decommitments as we all know.

Really think they should've waited on this one. Oh well.

I share your concern, but we know that between five and eight of these early commits won't be here in January or will be asked to seek shelter elsewhere. Nothing wrong with getting excited, I stay even keeled and believe me several of these kids will stick to their commitment.

So kids are signing up hoping he gets canned? Why not just wait. The offers are gonna come anyway?

Whoever said that is a moron. These kids/players dont hate AG and his staff. Only the fans do.

Momma Duke disagrees

Of course she does.. So I hope that she doesn't come gloating when this same program helped spring board her son to a NFL career. Or maybe he can hang with Clinton again and maybe get humbled some more.

Lb depth is awful. Grace or Kirby goes down it'll get ugly.

Our LBs this year has very little depth and can't afford much injuries.

This is what we have for 2015 (10):
56 Raphael Kirby LB 6-1 238 Sr. Stone Mountain, Ga. (Stephenson HS)
17 Tyriq McCord LB 6-3 248 Sr. Tampa, Fla. (Jefferson HS)
5 Jermaine Grace LB 6-1 212 Jr. Miami Gardens, Fla. (Miramar HS)
58 Darrion Owens LB 6-3 235 So. Orange Park, Fla. (Oakleaf HS)
51 Juwon Young LB 6-2 226 So. Albany, Ga. (Albany HS)
13 Marques Gayot LB 6-1 205 So. Lake Worth, Fla. (Park Vista Community HS)
23 Terry McCray LB 6-3 227 RFr. Pompano Beach, Fla. (Blanche Ely HS)
34 Charles Perry LB 6-1 206 Fr. West Palm Beach, Fla. (Royal Palm Beach)
00 Jamie Gordinier LB 6-4 245 Fr. Red Bank Catholic HS (Red Bank, NJ)
00 James King LB 6-1 200 Fr. Booker T. Washington (Miami, FL)

In 2016 we will be relying on the class of 2016 for immediate contributions. At least 2-3 guys will be in the 2 deep.

2016 (8):
5 Jermaine Grace LB 6-1 212 Sr. Miami Gardens, Fla. (Miramar HS)
58 Darrion Owens LB 6-3 235 Jr. Orange Park, Fla. (Oakleaf HS)
51 Juwon Young LB 6-2 226 Jr. Albany, Ga. (Albany HS)
13 Marques Gayot LB 6-1 205 Jr. Lake Worth, Fla. (Park Vista Community HS)
23 Terry McCray LB 6-3 227 RSo. Pompano Beach, Fla. (Blanche Ely HS)
34 Charles Perry LB 6-1 206 So. West Palm Beach, Fla. (Royal Palm Beach)
00 Jamie Gordinier LB 6-4 245 So. Red Bank Catholic HS (Red Bank, NJ)
00 James King LB 6-1 200 RFr. Booker T. Washington (Miami, FL)

This is assuming no injuries, transfers, position changes, etc. We'll have 8 guys returning in 2016.
Gordinier & McCray may grow to be DEs or rush specialists. McCray ran a 5.14 40 (5.07 best). That is slow even for a DE.

That potentially leaves us with Perry & King + class of 2016 after 2017.

Most likely 2-3 guys will get to redshirt and 2-3 will contribute right away in 2016.
All 5 of the class of 2016 will get the opportunity to start by their 3rd year (RSo. or JR).
I expect a small LB class in 2017 much like the OL this year.

Here is how Miami recruited the position since Golden got here:

2015 (+1):
Signed (3): Charles Perry, Jamie Gordinier, James King
Lost (2): Denzel Perryman (NFL), Thurston Armbrister

2014 (-1):
Signed (3): Juwon Young, Darrion Owens, Terry McCray
Lost (4): Jimmy Gaines (NFL), Tyrone Cornileus, Alex Figueroa (Kicked-off), JaWand Blue (Kicked-off)

2013 (-2):
Signed (2): Jermaine Grace, Alex Figueroa
Lost (4): Ramon Buchanan, Eddie Johnson (Kick-off), Gionni Paul (Transfer), Gabriel Terry (Kicked-off)

2012 (0):
Signed (5): Raphael Kirby, Tyriq McCord, Josh Witt, Gabriel Terry, Jawand Blue
Lost (5): Sean Spence (NFL), Jordan Futch, Kelvin Cain, Josh Witt (Concussion), C.J. Holton (FB)

2011 (-1):
Signed (4): Denzel Perryman, Thurston Armbrister, Gionni Paul, Eddie Johnson
Lost (5): Colin McCarthy (NFL), Kylan Robinson, Travis Williams (Transfer), Kevin Nelson (Transfer), Shayon Green (DE)

While I hope they don't bring on more, I think this is the right amount. I think of the lb's that will be here next year at least one only has tape edge rushing, one is changing positions and one looks like a last second depth grab. I think three of the 5 in the '16 class will get solid minutes right away, and the others can redshirt because we finally have the numbers to allow it. From my perspective, by the '18 season there will be plenty of minutes to go around for the whole group.

We are going to only have 4 returning every down LBs on the roster going into 2016. Grace, Young, Owens, Perry. Huge need.

WR and CB are the other 2 huge needs.

RB depth isn't exactly a strength. I think it's safe to say, classes have not been very balanced.

Having LB, WR, CB, and RB as arguably the four spots on this team in most dire need of a talent influx in a coach's fifth year at Miami with this recruiting base really tells the whole story.

LB was just bad luck... Suspensions, transfers, concussions.

We have a bevy of talent at WR, but production has been abysmal besides Dorsett.

No excuse for RB or Corner. Flat out sucked

I expect us to sign around 30 this class. Here is who we should have in 2016.

Offense: (14) Returnees: (36)
QB: 2 (Alison, ) Have (4): Kaaya (Jr), Rosier (RSo), Shirreffs (RFr.), Crow (Sr)
RB 3 (Rasul, Burnett, ) Have (5): Gus (Sr), Yearby (Jr), Gray (Jr), Tucker (Sr), Walton (So)
TE: 2 (Hinson, ) Have (5): Dobbard (Sr), Herndon (Jr), Washington (RSo), Njoku (RSo), O'Donnell (Sr)
WR: 5 (Mullins, Bruce, Richards, Johnson, ) Have (6): Coley (Sr), Lewis (RSr), Berrios (Jr), Brady (Jr), Langham (RSo), Cager (RFr), Jones (Sr)

Defense: (16) Returnees: (31)
DT: 2 (Camp, ) Have (7): Moten (Jr), Moore (RSr), Jenkins (Jr), Hamilton (RSr), Fines (RFr), Norton (RFr), McIntosh (RFr)
DE: 2 (Jackson, ) Have (8): AQM (RJr), Thomas (Jr), Willis (RSo), Jackson (RSo), Harris (Jr), Smith (RSo), Patchan (So), Gordinier (RFr)

S: 3 (Wright, Gil, ) Have (4): Carter (Sr), Jenkins (RSr), Johnson (So), Knowles (RFr)
CB: 4 (Byrd, Wiggins, , ) Have (5): Burns (Sr), Elder (Sr), Mayes (RSo), Jackson (RFr), Redwine (RFr)

We will have 67 scholarship players + a K & P which bring the total number up to 69. We have room for 16 if no one leaves the team prematurely in the next 1½ years.

My guess is we may lose 1-2 juniors to the NFL, some 5th year seniors will transfer to get more playing time or be asked not to come back after graduating. There will be a few that will transfer for various reasons, and a couple that will get kicked off for disciplinary reasons. This will begin to unfold during the spring. I would not be surprise if we lose another 15 before the 2016 season to make room for 30 new recruits.

Potential Early NFL: AQM, Burns, Coley, Dobbard, Isadora, Elder, Grace, Carter, Gus
5th year seniors: Crow, Jones, O'Donnell, Hamilton, Moore, Gadbois, Jenkins, Malcom, Gall

A typical scholarship distribution should look something like this. () shows how many we will have in 2016 based on our current roster.

Offense - 42 (36)
QB – 5 (4)
RB – 7 (5)
TE – 5 (5)
OL – 15 (16)
WR -10 (6)

Defense - 41 (31)
DE -7 (8)
DT – 7 (7)
LB – 12 (7)
S – 6 (4)
CB – 9 (5)

Special Teams - 2 (2)
K – 1 (1)
P – 1 (1)

As you can see our positions of most need for 2016 in terms of numbers are LB, S, CB, WR.
We need at least 5 WRs and 5 LBs in this class. We also need at least 7-8 DBs.
We may take only 1 QB depending on how Shirreffs and Rosier develop this year.
We need at least 2 RBs this year.
We need 2 TEs since 2 will graduate after 2016. Depending on how Washington, Njoku and Herndon develops we may only need 1 in 2016 and 1 in 2017.

Assuming some of you are correct and recruits are jumping on board because they don't want to be coached by Golden. Do you believe if we were to win 10, 11 or even 12 games next year that they drop their commitment? Please answer the question.

Come on dont even give them that. There is no way in **** these kids are coming to the U because they think there is going to be a change. Thats just more of the mass delusion seen on this site. So many people on this site are so FN dumb about this topic thats its painful to watch them fist themselves in a desperate attempt to soil this class and the U. Trolls go home.

How often do teams have classes like this with a lame duck coach? Al is widely considered the number one coach on the hotseat.

Arguably the best class around here in years is following a offseason with Al rumored to be fired weekly. It's not too far fetched is it?

The same guy who couldn't close to save his life when he had all the job security you could ask for.

Whats you point.... You really think that you know something that these kids and their parents do not? Like someone so close to everything that's going on is clueless (even though it directly affects their future) but guys on this board who make up rumor after rumor know what they are talking about? Just because a herd of sheep jump on board everything they say then its a fact?

Also Al is not rumored to be fired weekly. This administration has come out and dispelled any rumors and said he is not being fired.

If you think rumors from posters who live in their mom's basement are more credible then what is coming directly from recruits mouths then you really should start questioning your own ability to make informed decisions.

Momma Duke disagrees

The kids in this class disagree with Momma Duke and most of the fans on this site. and the last time I checked that's who matters. You hatters dont sign LOIs. Not one other FN person does either. So I don't give a chit if Ab lincoln disagrees because his opinion matters as much as Momma Dukes does on this class.

All that matters for a class in Miami to be huge is that the kids are hyped on Miami.

These kids are hyped so if you call yourself a Miami fan why are you trying to tell them they are wrong. And F all those trolls on this site who say differently.

These kids haven't signed LOIs yet either.

Yep so the trolls on this board have a little more time to spread their negativity about this class in hopes that they can get the hyped squashed. I personally have no complaints with this class and where we are at with it. You guys can **** on it all you want but we know your just trolling and soon all the kids that do see these posts will know as well.

You FN clowns cant stop the U... No one on Sundays says I am from the University of Al Golden they all say they are from the U.
