No Bo Jackson?Brown, Payton, Sayers, Sanders, OJ
That is the Top 5 backs in that order.

Emmitt Smith is a Croc, so he automatically gets bumped down a few spots on the all-time list. That’s just how it works.
Pretty sure all the older dudes would say Jim Brown is the GOAT.
I'd agree OJ is probably on this list. I tend to be with Vilma that there's 2 or 3 that are definitely top 2-3 and then after that there's 10 guys who you can debate.
That top 5 mostly mirrors mine, and it's the one most pro football experts would throw out there as the top group:
Jim Brown
Walter Payton
Barry Sanders
O.J. Simpson*
Erik ****erson
* assuming you don't take points away for committing double homicide
Covert’s first all pro year was 1985. Hilgenberg’s first year was 1986. Payton’s last real season was 1986. (He split carries in ‘87, so I was a year off on his retirement.) So same point. Walter played substantially his whole career behind a line with no all pros anywhere. This isn't quite true.
Jimbo Covert was an all-pro more than a couple years. And Hilgenburg was an all-pro many years, too. And he's been a nominee for the HOF.
Not sure about the rest.
Is that you Jim Brown?
Emmitt Smith is not the GOAT, no.
Definitely a Top 10 RB, Gator hatred aside. Possibly Top 5.
1.) Jim Brown
2.) Barry Sanders
3.) Walter Payton
4.) Earl Campbell
5.) Eric ****erson
6.) Emmitt Smith
7.) John Riggins
8.) Marshall Faulk
9.) Marion Motley
10.) Bronco Nagurski
Honorable Mention: Larry Csonka.
Didn't Brown criticize Harris for his (wimpy) running style?
Portis ain't gettin' in, no. Was a way better college RB than a pro. Not knocking him, he had a good NFL career.
Edge should've been in by now.
On a side note...That Jacket in your avatar is fire!
Too many good ones to name a goat. each one has they're own running style.but it's be very interesting if they were all available for the upcoming draft .which one gets picked first.
I think based on the totality of the responses, we might have reached the extremely rare occasion of all of CIS agreeing on something.
If you put Barry on Emmitt's Cowboys teams, he'd put up records that would never be sniffed.
Yawn...
