LOL at Emmitt even being in this discussion. I know some Dallas fans will disagree though.

Let Frank Gore run in that Dallas offense with Pro Bowlers all over the place....lol
 
I grew up in the 80's and 90's so personally, I consider Barry Sanders the greatest running back ever.
My pop says OJ Simpson and mainly for a lot of the same reasons I like Sanders.
They both spent a majority of their careers playing for bad teams where they were the only option. Every team knew they were getting the ball and didn't have to bother respecting any type of passing game. They'd still somehow rush for 150 yards even though the defense knew it was coming.

For me, Emmit Smith is the most overrated back ever. He was a good player, for sure but he played on those loaded Dallas teams that would open up holes big enough to drive a truck through. If you put Barry Sanders on the Cowboys in the 90's he obliterates every single rushing record.

Agree 100%. A shame more people don't recognize his talent if they even know who he is.

As you point out, but for injuries, this may be a very different discussion.
 
****erson was a Freak!!! Always thought he was top 3. Barry as I recall had the most amazing lateral movement I’ve seen. I remember Zach and Jason trying to tackle him and he’d disappear like Houdini

Any list of top RB that doesnt have Marshall Faulk in the top 3 is a suck *** list. Marshall Faulk is the most dynamic back to ever play the game. Elite runner , blocker, and receiver.

He changed the game and the way the position is used/seen. No back did what faulk did.
 
This isn't quite true.

Jimbo Covert was an all-pro more than a couple years. And Hilgenburg was an all-pro many years, too. And he's been a nominee for the HOF.

Not sure about the rest.

In addition to being the all time leading rusher at the time he retired, he was also the all time leading receiver out of the backfield when he retired. I'd like to see how long he played behind those guys? Provide some stats with your logic please sir.

Grew up watching Jim Brown run over, through and around everyone he played against. He would run left, be hemmed in and completely run around and through the entire team down the right sideline for a touchdown. He was also a great lacrosse player at Syracuse.
 
Barry Sanders is the best RB ever. He could play in any era and be considered the best RB every year. A lot of the people being listed would struggle to replicate their production with the athletes in modern day football. Barry is one of the few that would still make today's players look silly trying to tackle him.
