GOAT RB - Vilma tweet

My uncle swore JB was the GOAT. From what I see on film, I'd take Sayers over Brown. I don't think his game translates well to today's game. Although Derrick Henry reminds of Brown and he's doing just fine.

Sayers was something special until he got hurt. He tied the record of single game touchdowns record with four rushing, one receiving, and one returning. His running style reminds of DJ Dallas but with speed elusiveness like Hester.

Emmitt Smith is not the GOAT, no.

Definitely a Top 10 RB, Gator hatred aside. Possibly Top 5.

1.) Jim Brown
2.) Barry Sanders
3.) Walter Payton
4.) Earl Campbell
5.) Eric ****erson
6.) Emmitt Smith
7.) John Riggins
8.) Marshall Faulk
9.) Marion Motley
10.) Bronco Nagurski

Honorable Mention: Larry Csonka.

I would put Marcus Allen above some of those people. He is a Superbowl MVP

They say the availability is the greatest skill. If so then, much I hate to say it, you have to give it to that friggnig gator, Emmitt. Playmaker said Emmitt hated the gators and wanted to be a Cane but he still stinks of the swamp. He did beat the best dancer ever, Mario, for the crystal ball in Dancing with the Stars.

Jim Brown was far and away the greatest except he left so soon. I don’t blame him but time in service counts. Sadly, Sayers career was cut short by horrbible injury. Otherwise, The Comet was probably the greatest show on earth. If you saw him play, Barry is a poor man’s version. Then, Barry had more availability and therefore worthy of higher rank.

Someone mentioned Sanders teleporting - well, Gale Sayers was the first I saw do that, and at full speed. It's a damned shame that the injuries ruined him because he was truly special.

Not really trying to make this a debate about the GOAT RB, though I'm sure it will turn to that. But want to survey the board. Vilma tweeted the GOAT's are Barry then Peyton. I'd tend to agree.

Funny thing for me is, you almost NEVER hear anyone argue Emmitt as the GOAT. I personally wouldn't put him in the top 5.

So the question is, does ANYONE here consider Emmitt the GOAT? If so, why other than "because he's the all time rushing leader."
Barry Sanders will always be the goat to me.

Emmitt benefited from being on one of the greatest teams in the 90s.

Walter Payton was the GOAT. Played his whole career behind crap lines, with no talent around him on offense. First time he ever ran behind an all pro OL was his last season. In addition to being the all time leading rusher at the time he retired, he was also the all time leading receiver out of the backfield when he retired. He was also an amazing blocker, the Bears third string QB and back-up punter. Simple the goat football player.

Brown and Sanders both left too soon. Sanders only played one more year than Brown.

True. I wasn’t sure about Sanders. Earl would have followed their example. I understand he has real mobility issues now. We love these guys to stay but what a price some have to pay. Earl buried the Fins several times but he was all man all the time. I never could work up a good hate for him.

Walter Payton was the greatest football player I've ever seen.

As for Emmitt, its hard because he played on such stacked teams. Was a tough SOB though.
Emmitt was dependable and highly productive for a long time. Even as a gator he has my grudging respect.

Gayle Sayers should get a mention, if not for crap team and injuries would be somewhere near the top. 6 all purpose touchdowns in one game...
"Sayers was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977 at age 34, and remains the youngest person to receive the honor. He was named to the NFL's 75th Anniversary Team as a halfback and kick returner, the only player to occupy two positions on the team."

OJ ran for 2000 in 14 games I put OJ first
Eric ****erson second Barry third Walter forth
Emmith fifth.
