Gimmick Offense

It's a lot easier to be physical against Bama when you get them out of the phone booth.

That's the point.

Don't know why that's such a difficult concept to grasp. Physical alone doesn't mean **** against a team as strong and loaded as Bama. Ask LSU, UGA, and Michigan State.

It's really simple to understand.

Have Floyd Mayweather fight Bob Sapp in a phone booth. Now take them out of the phone booth. Log the results. LOL

Watching the game the other night, I just kept thinking how terrible our OL is. Hope Richt can coach around it for the next season or two. Would love to see a mobile QB and an uptempo spread down here.

Last i checked, none of that matters is clemson doesnt have watson playing qb. Hes the straw that stirred that drink. And guess what? They still lost. Even after over 500 total yards from deshaun himself.

LOL people still spouting the same tired misconceptions about the spread.

"It's finesse."

"Throwing 80 times isn't real football."

People need to wake up. The best spread teams have a strong run element. They want to spread the defense out and get a numbers advantage in the box so they can run up the gut. And when teams are spread out, it's harder to disguise the defense. It simplifies the reads for the QBs.

Tempo tires out the defense by not allowing them to substitute. It also forces DCs to keep defensive calls relatively simple.

How is any of this relevant to the topic?

You are beginning to sound like Tim Tebow in that mini golf commercial from a few years back.

When it's all said and done the POWER SPREAD ala Tom Herman is the best way to beat Bama

YUH?!

How's that worked out for TAMU the last 2 years?...I'll answer it for ya', they've lost to Bama by a combined score of 100-23!!!

So the simple answer is to get em' out the phone booth huh?!...YUH?!...LMFAO @ YOU!!!

This discussion would be easier people would realize the word spread describes an offensive formation not the play ran out of it and not the tempo between snaps.

Clemson lost because of ST mistakes and blown coverage. They scored enough to win, but made too many mistakes against a great team. Clemson should have won that game.

550 yards, 40 pts vs Bama tonight
537 yards, 42 pts vs Bama last year

I know we won't see this exact thing from Richt but I pray we see the tempo he ran at FSU.

That's why he calls it a "Fast Break Offense".
You mean you're not supposed to have your whole team, both O & D, looking like a bunch of meerkats staring at the sideline to find out the play is a bubble pass or getting a delay call. Wow SMDH.

Didn't realize that the air raid is a running spread? Also, does Texas A&M employ tempo now that Manziel is gone? Not running tempo allows Bama to rotate their players through keeping them fresh. How many times has Saban lost to an uptempo spread style team? Get Bama spread out and keep the tempo up and Bama's big slow guys dying on the field. Spreading them out works if you're not huddling, and not substituting.

People really dont get it AT ALL. Baylor, Oregon, TCU, Okla, UNC, Clemson, etc. all run some variation of spread but guess what? They all out rush a team like alabama.

You absolutely need to spread teams like Bama out. As Richt found out, you won't beat Bama by trying to out-Bama them. Miles has found out the same thing. Those two dopes tried to play football in a phone booth with Bama and regularly got sodomized for their troubles.

Spread them out. Work in some tempo. And they are very beatable. It also helps to have a QB who poses a threat in the run game.
Yep. A lot of spread teams can have some success but you keep at it until you hit pay dirt with the QB.

I would also add that when you have the threat of the run especially at QB you can flat out frustrate the defense into mistakes. You have your keys but when you keep getting gashed anyways, you can frustrate coaches and teams into giving up.....much like you saw when we tried to defend Clemson last year. You can break the will of the defense by making plays even when they have the right alignment.

The problem isn't the spread. The problem is that teams like Baylor and Oklahoma State and Oregon try to win the whole thing by outscoring everyone. None of them has succeeded in doing that. You still have to have some semblance of defense and the ability to control the clock.

Those teams are never going to recruit national championship caliber teams. They can't get overwhelming defensive players because those players just aren't as common in those regions and the majority will go to traditional power. They have to rely on systems. However, teams like Ohio State does the best of both worlds and if they were in the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if they won it again. OSU's only loss was on a last second field goal I believe and they killed Bama last year with the same team returning
