Georgia NIL leak on Jackson Cantwell

Searles must baby sit all the head coaches kids for him to keep getting jobs. Either that or he makes a great thanksgiving dinner or some sh.
he got mack brown and mark rricht giving him references and everyone LOVESSS those 2 guys.

Richt thinks Searles is a GREAT ol coach...that alone unlocks doors. Richt done willed Thomas Brown up to the nfl and he doesnt even eat shrimp

Need to get these types and Pepe, big whiff this cycle will cost us for sure on the LOS. This is UGA flexing
I agree with you but it looks like USC has more cap space than the San Diego Chargers right now. The Pepe situation reminds me of the Thanos situation last cycle.

This roster should be so much better, imo,

It’s a problem across the board. We can’t even get a kicker out of HS to replace Borregales after 3 years? It’s frustrating. This roster should be so much better, imo,

Fun fact-

The talent composite for 2024 (year 3 of Cristobal) was 89.65

The talent composite for 2021 (year 3 of Diaz) was 89.68

I warned you all when Cristobal was hired that the idea of a “super recruiter” HC is a myth (applies across the board, not just to Cristobal). I said in 2022 he would likely end up being a slightly better recruiter than his predecessors- instead of having the 14th ranked class like Diaz or Folden, he would get the 10th ranked class- that’s not nearly enough to justify the salary. I said we would be far better off finding a HC who recruits in that 10-14 range but has proven he can get the most out of the talent available.

Win the ACC, win some playoff games, and with our NIL money that HC would suddenly look like a much better recruiter and get top 7 classes consistently. Now Cristobal can’t buy 5 stars after a 10 win season as recruits believe UMs success was entirely due to Cam Ward. And it’s not just losing Cantwell- if Cristobal got a 5 star at ANY other position this cycle - WR, DT, LB then maybe I could shrug this off as a just a blip. That level of talent no longer appears interested in coming to Miami.

Are you really taking a victory lap on recruiting IN MAY on a coach who has signed the two best classes we've had since George Bush was president?!? GTFOH

This “chasing the bag” line is old and lazy. The 5-star and elite players, whether HS recruits or transfer portal kids, in most cases are going to the highest bidder. That’s why you align with Drew Rosenhaus or another agent to field offers and negotiate. Chasing a bag sounds somewhat dirty or bad when, in fact, it’s how the game is now played and what most of us would do if in the same situation.

That makes sense if this was ONLY an NIL situation. But it's not.

The SEC schools have continued to pay illicit money during the NIL era. Not only does this practice involve the recruits in potential tax fraud, but it is also a calculated move by SEC teams to give the APPEARANCE that a player is taking "less money" to go to a "better football program".

is there a reason UM can’t do the same? NCAA is dead. No one is enforcing anything anymore.

But the bags in the pre-NIL era were at most $300K.

In addition to NIL, what sort of bags are we talking about to go on top of NIL? $5M? $10M? A town?

So?

People forget, if a player is offered $1M in bag money, it is equivalent to $1.4 million (roughly) since fed and state taxes are not paid.

Bag money is a force multiplier.

Zero chance. Folks would be terminated instantly for playing those games. You're making the same mistake so many football/sports coaches make which is believing the enforcement mechanism to be worried about is the NCAA. The DOJ is the enforcement mechanism to really worry about.

I think the DOJ has other concerns besides the University of Miami. If we know the SEC schools are doing it, why not blow the whistle?

DOJ usually does have other concerns besides whatever cut rate wire fraud/ML conspiracy someone has cooked up. That works out fine for folks until an ambitious AUSA gets bored and sees an opportunity to put themselves in the spotlight by making you the other concern. AS far as why not blow the whistle, that is a very legit question. I would assume we don't KNOW KNOW in that sense. Though we did come pretty close to KNOW KNOWING of some stuff Norvell was fooling around with for a cycle or two...

It's not about the NCAA, it's about the legality. You have to have alums willing to deliver an untraceable duffle bag full of money. Like 20 years ago, when SEC teams were Fed-Exing Albert Means $100K at a time.

The reality is, the Mas brothers run a public-traded company and are highly unlikely to want to engage in this form of recruiting. If you know of any alums/boosters who are interested in doing so, by all means contact them. But the SEC alums have been doing this for decades and they take great pride in it.

Yeah but don't actually do that part lol

I may be totally off here, but wouldn’t we kinda want him to push his commitment date back? I just don’t see a world where he leaves Athens on Sunday, and then commits to Miami the very next day

It's not the passage of time. It's the passage of money.

If Miami asked him to push back because we "need" an OV to pay him additional non-NIL cash, I guarantee the date would be pushed back.

But just asking for it to be pushed back for him to "think about it"? Uh, yeah, no.

What do people think happened on these Oregon/UGa visits? That after two years of being recruited, Cantwell suddenly needed a few hours to visit the UGa Business School?

Good lord, people, WAKE UP. These "last minute OVs" were to pay Cantwell non-NIL cash on the privacy of an enormous state university campus, where the university controls all the video feeds.

Clearly, Miami has chosen not to match in this regard, and we are offering more LEGAL NIL money than Oregon/UGa.

Yep. And in our current universe in which the entirety of college athletics is being actively litigated in courts and in Congress, doing it any other way than our way is utterly insane.
