Gattis leaving?

Well if this fake news clickbait rumor comes to fruition, Miami should kick the tires on Kent State's OC Andrew Sowder who comes from the Art Briles/Dino Babers trees of coaching.

Sowder & Garrett Riley are two of the best candidates likely but they don't seem to meet the tUfF & phYsIcAL criteria at all. I think guys like Jeff Scott, Robert Anae are very feasible candidates but we'll have to wait & see.

As in "IN" the cannon with Gattis?
This is how I'm "IN"

You could see how clearly the lack of depth to this offense and the total simplification was evident ifyou watched the spring game. Like watching something out of the 60’s I know.

That being said we are in a struggle to get recruits and transfers. Perception is everything and the Rashada shocker must be absorbed quickly. Your going to fire him DO IT NOW ! And same with the DC clear the decks. Like owning a bad stock …don’t hold on to it .

I listened to a podcast featuring sowder and came away with a completely different impression of him, regarding how 'finesse' his scheme is. He LOVES to run the ball and talks about how he is just now incorporating more power run concepts (counters, pin and pulls) into his playbook. He wants a physical offense, just like CMC. I hope he gets an interview!

Actually Sowder does run a physical style of offense. People often misconstrued Art Briles / Dino Babersoffensive systems as finesse only. There is also Chatlie Strong connection with Andrew Sowder from their time at Texas when Sowder worked for Strong as a Off QA.

Sark just on gameday said they were run first at bama. They are run first at Texas… people have freaked out about Mario maintaining a similar position. Fwiw and @Cribby has discussed this at length. You can’t throw it 61 times and hope to win consistently, have to be able to run it. Texas is starting two true freshmen and a sophomore and playing great O.

Add Samson, Francis and a portal cat on the Oline. Better more unifying OC, time to cook! Stay up boys

Correct. I was watching Kent play recently and they ran way more than I expected, with some good creative concepts, including qb run which I could envision seeing Jacurri being very effective within. I hope Strong is vouching for at least an interview on his behalf if there's a connection there.

Yessir

The Charlie Strong connection is interesting for sure..

Sowder checks most of the boxes. He runs a balanced, innovative, offense and comes from a successful coaching tree. He has had success in all his previous roles. I'm not sure how strong of a recruiter he is, but, that is CMCs strength.

He, also, doesn't seem to need 'his guys'.

Yeah we gotta put this to bed

Actually a lot of our more emotional fans have been asking us to run the ball more (until it was pretty evident we can’t)

You can run the ball and be creative. We talk about Michigan a lot but just look at what Harbaugh likes to do. The Kyle Shanahans of the world where that philosophy is trickling through coaches across the country

Nothing wrong with running the ball at all for sure

We clearly need to go a different direction with our OC, and maybe Gattis goes somewhere else and succeeds. It’s just a bad combination of what he’s trying to do and the personnel we have. Luckily the personnel looks like it’s going to get a major upgrade very quickly

Most college teams run more than they pass.

For the billionth time, Gattis doesn’t suck because he wants to run the ball. EVERYONE not named Mike Leach wants to run the ball. Gattis sucks because he has no idea how to run an offense that doesn’t dominate the line of scrimmage. If you need 5 star players at every position on the line for your offense to work, you have a garbage offense. ANYBODY cans succeed when they have all the best players. Sometimes, you just don’t have the personnel to line up and run it right at your opponent. Sometimes you have to alter your system to do what works with the players you have. Miami has scored more than 21 points against a P5 opponent 1 TIME this year. That was the game where they threw it 57 times.

Robert Anae has been brought up in this thread and he’s a good example of adjusting his system to the players available.

In 2021, Virginia was very pass happy. They didn’t have the horses to run against most opponents. They had a 28/46 run pass ratio. They put up over 500 yards per game and 35 points per game.

Now at Syracuse, he doesn’t have the quarterback or receivers to throw for 400 yards a game so his run/pass ratio is 34/27. They run at a slower pace than Virginia did and he’s managing to squeeze 30 points per game from a really weak Syracuse offense.

Anae is a former college lineman who spent a majority of his early career as an OL coach. He understands when he has the horses on the line to be run heavy and when he needs to rely more on his skill players.
