Florida has absolutely dodged Miami since the 1980s.

For 50 years, from 1938 to 1987, Miami and Florida played annually (with the exception of 1943, due to World War II).

The Gator dropped Miami in 1988. We were replaced by Montana State.

At the time, college teams played 11 games in the regular season. The SEC went from 6 games to 7 games. That means that The Gator went from 5 OOC games to 4 OOC games, and suddenly they "couldn't play" Miami.

The SEC went to 8 games in 1992. The NCAA went to 12 games in 2006. It is only during this 14-year period when the SEC teams only had 3 OOC games. During those 14 years, The Gator only managed to schedule Miami to a single home-and-home series.

For the record, Miami and Florida are about to play for the 58th time. Florida and F$U are about to play for the 69th time. From 1988 onward, F$U has played Florida 39 times (including this year), while Miami has played Florida 10 times (including this year).

Florida leads the series with F$U by 10 games. Miami leads the series with Florida by 3 games.

Simply stated, Miami is the longer and stronger OOC rival for Florida.
