From Quality Inn, my thoughts on the SMU loss..

Beck stinks. He stunk a little less when we played with pace. But make no mistake, he has been an epic failure. I am guilty of a bad eval too, I thought he was better than he is.
Buddy, I agree. Just think he’s better with pace than going slow. Trust me I yelled about him being the guy like crazy to this board and everyone else who listened

What sucks is that other than Cuse the other games could all be close when they shouldn’t be

NCST has a QB so that will be a fight

At VT can be close for a bit

At Pitt after the week before being af VT this team could just quit and playing at Pitt

The way we play offense all these games are close and possible losses

It’s what Mario is

“Contention”, I asked who wins?

Of the last 12 QB’s to win the NC, only Watson was a threat to run.
Beck has only been sacked 4 times, so it’s not like his mobility is hurting us.

2024 Will Howard 226 yards rushing in 16 games.

2023 McCarthy 202 yards in 15 games.

2022 Bennett 205 yards in 15 games.

2021 Bennett 259 yards in 14 games.

2020 Jones 14 yards in 14 games.

2019 Burrow 368 yards in 15 games.

2018 Lawrence 177 yards in 15 games.

2017 Tua 133 yards in 10 games.

2016 Watson 629 yards in 15 games.

2015 Coker 68 Yards in 15 games

2014 Barrett got hurt and didn’t play last 3 games. Jones had 1.8 ypc in NC game.

2013 Winston 219 yards in 14 games.
thats crazy.....every qb you just listed is more mobile and athletic than Beck other than Coker...WOW!

If your qb is a pick machine putting him in tight condensed sets is not helping the situations . It also makes it easier to disguise blitzes and getting pressure . Using the field as a 12th man with more space to cover helps all parties. They’re handling him the opposite way as they should imo.
So pretty much what he did to TVD in 23?

I'd argue its not a lack of athleticism, but rather a lack of toughness at QB. Beck simply refuses to take any kind of contact. Emory is the same size as beck and is exponentially tougher as a runner.

When its time for beck to pick up yards, he needs to get it done, even if it means taking the occasional hit. He simply refuses to.
youre right he is scared of contact. but he is so stiff....he's mechanical in his movements. He reminds me of TVD...he is not a fluid athlete.

Interesting point.

He also saw Nick Saban constantly bring in top Modern minded OCs (Sark, Lane, etc.) who had fast and physical offenses.

It’s mind blowing he doesn’t model that success
Believe Mario left prior to Saban opening up the offense.

Just think that after this game in three weeks we go for number 2 in the nation to probably about 20. A typical Mario finish but wait till we play Pitt. lol

You can play the way Mario wants and be explosive

Look at Indiana

Look at Georgia when they had Stetson Bennett

Look at Michigan 2 years ago

The problem is those teams and coaches played much cleaner and weren’t as tight as Mario

Beck is taking a lot of ****. I thought he was fine to good today.

The OT int was bad, but that was it. And we never shoulda been in that spot.

They don’t let him get in a rhythm. Beck didn’t bench Jojo after he dropped the INT, the coaches did. Beck was grooving with jojo.

Idk. Beck has been fine to me. It’s the play calling and general philosophy imo.

@k9cane says the offensive line isn't good. @DMoney says that Miami has the best offensive line in the country.
Dmoney somehow is getting fooled by what he watches during practices.Lofton is not the best pure football player on the team.OL is average,JOJO is a jag,Lucas is average.I expect next offseason to be a little different, very few will be drinking the koolaid.

We need an aggressive former Head Coach as OC who gets full full autonomy.

Let Mario recruit.
