From Quality Inn, my thoughts on the SMU loss..

My question is. Is Mario micromanaging Dawson or is this really Dawson’s offense with no interference? If Mario is interfering he needs to hand over the keys to the offense completely. If it’s Dawson he needs to go and we need a more innovative OC. I DONT THINK Dawson is with us next year either way.

I promise you Mario flew home tonight believing that if we “just executed” we would have won. Just a little more physicality at that point of attack. Maybe a bit upset about penalties. The idea of “if I let my air raid OC and superior pass blocking OL push the pace and gain a lead, I can win a lot more games when I’m up 21-7 than 17-14…”. Not happening

This will not change. Mario thinks he’s right and just needs better execution. I’ve met 50
Mario’s in my life. He’s my old HS coach that played a 50 defense with single high cover 1 with 7 yard cushions even though the whole country switched to the spread on offense. He the baseball coach that still tries to string 5 hits together in a row when pitchers throw 99.

He doesn’t spend time on details. Or scheme. Or special teams. Or anything like that. Literally just be tough and conditioned with the right body types. He believes it with his whole heart. And so it will be for us
Agree on special teams, when was the last time we even tried to block a punt. It's all prevent def and we still get fooled on punts and fgs.

Mario’s overall football philosophy is a concern, not enough emphasis on Xs and Os.

Not matter how good this team finish or starts, as long as they continue to be one of the most penalized teams and players not holding each other accountable, nothing will change.

Dawson is a problem as well. Like when is the last time the offense tried to create a mismatch. Like tried to get a LB to cover a RB or a TE?

It’s over bro
Mario isn’t handing over ****

I'd argue its not a lack of athleticism, but rather a lack of toughness at QB. Beck simply refuses to take any kind of contact. Emory is the same size as beck and is exponentially tougher as a runner.

When its time for beck to pick up yards, he needs to get it done, even if it means taking the occasional hit. He simply refuses to.
This I agree with.
I don’t want my QB running much, but they need to hang in there and take a hit, if it’s necessary to complete a pass.

Mario needs to look around and see that programs are more willing to take huge buyouts if they have to because they know the money they’ll make by winning will offset it in the long run. Miami and Mario are at a crossroads.

The program has never been in a better spot financially and the team hasn’t had this level of talent since the early 2000s teams. He’s done a great job at the building part of this program and has some impressive big time wins, but completely negates it when he loses to inferiority talented teams late in the year when they can scheme him up with 7+ weeks worth of film.

The beautiful part is, it’s an easy fix. Keep doing everything you’re doing and get out of the way on Gameday. Like completely disconnect the microphone from your headset. The problem is, he’s an egomaniac and won’t do it. He’s gotta take a look at some of his peers, aka Billy Napier, who refused to give up playcalling and it was the reason he ultimately lost his job.

oh yea forgotten is....we have guys so explosive play deprived that they are in a full sprint to catch a kickoff that is going out of bounds and actually catch it and runs out of bounds...because they are pressed and have low iq on offense and specials.

Best way Mario could help us is to sit in the booth on game day and wat h the game on TV like the rest of us…

You think the staff wants him taking hits and having to put in Emory? I was shocked when we did a QB sneak cause they are afraid of beck getting hurt

How does it prove your point?
1 maybe 2, Burrow, were probably in the Top 40 QB’s for rushing those years.

The vast majority were not considered a threat to run.

If your point is to add a running dimension, then the majority of these QB’s weren’t it.
If your point is to avoid sacks, Beck isn’t getting sacked.
man if you think Beck is in the same stadium as Burrow when it comes to movement, fluidity and athleticism im done with this convo.
im talking about movement. look at how those guys move. Its natural, Beck is mechanical in his movement.

They had some designed runs with Beck .. smh ran his 3 yds and started his slide
