Frierson Smoke??

You have seen one player play the striker position. In your uninformed opinion that single player wasn’t “developed”. So that means Miami hasn’t “developed a single soul” at the position. Your intelligence is laughable. How about this? Keontra Smith has developed so well he’s about to take the starting position from a player who’s a year older.
😂😩😂 At this point, I’m convinced your retarded *** can’t even really figure out what you’re pushing back against.

Are you arguing that Romeo Finley was the ONLY player competing at the position - and wasn’t developed - but it’s too early to say we haven’t developed anyone?

Or - YOU have only seen Romeo play Striker and Keontra is about to take the position away from some mystery “older” player who probably played Center before and wasn’t competing against Romeo (the only player there according to you) - and thus the older player still couldn’t be developed...??

LMAO. Dude.. go to work and lay off the Twinkies.

No but as a 4th year player I'd like his chances playing Safety with Gurvan. Bolden is gone after this year. Even with Tae back, along with JW and Cam coming I'd like Gils skillset combined with experience to give him the slight edge to get the start.
Maybe he’s not good?

I know this might hurt your feelings but it happens

Take your beating like a man dude. Every thing @DTP said is true. You got owned.

Oh look - another moron who thinks Romeo is the only player to play Striker. Watch any football last year? Mindlessly play with your buddy’s balls off this site.

Whatever happened to guys staying and competing for PT. First Derrick Smith and now possibly Gil...if nothing else Gil can definitely provide depth at CB. Really hope he stays, we need him even if he's 2nd string striker

I'm all for them staying at Miami until they get a degree. Once they graduate and they want to leave i'm all for it.

So how is our striker position different to these kids than any other schools “star” linebacker or rover or whatever others are calling it. They have no issues recruiting keeping and developing players. So what gives?

Dude if you want to die on this “they haven’t developed anyone at striker” hill, go for it. Just realize that every single thing you’ve said is wrong.

Listen if everyone is getting an extra year of eligibility our depth chart might just be full for his positions next year. We've recruited well at safety and striker. There's no point in leaving this year but next year several kids will probably be nudged out based on numbers.

Those rover positions are all hybrid spots. The striker in our 4-2-5 is a hybrid safety/linebacker. Star or Bandit or Rover are just different names for hybrid positions. Some teams use them as a spare linebacker in a 3-3-5 defense but it’s really not all that different from what we do with a striker here.
We have only used the position for two seasons so when they first implemented it, two reserve safeties (Derek Smith and Romeo Finley) competed for the job. Finley won the job and Smith transferred because he didn’t want to sit the bench.
They have recruited the position really well as a guy like Keontra Smith was built for the role. Not to mention 2021 commits James Williams and Chase Smith will both be given opportunities to play the position too.
The position and title get too overhyped here because porsters overthink it and think it’s some crazy newfangled idea but it’s really just a nickel corner who is more physical in run support.

as a general point to people saying there is no point in transferring this year.

It is literally the perfect year to transfer if youre not happy, logistically speaking.

Transfers have to sit out a year usually, but this year will not count towards eligibility. So while they sit a year, they dont lose a year of eligibility.

Playing this season is a big question mark anyway. Games may be cancelled, some guys dont feel safe, etc. Some kids are sitting out out anyway.

So if you want to transfer, this is the year to do it.

I realize it’s hard to be moved around. But again, the kid has/had the inside lane to be starter at Striker. What more could he ask for? He needs to rise to the occasion now. Smith is **** good. Frierson can be as good or better.

At this point it’s not about talent but about willpower and desire. And if they share some reps, there’s no dishonor in that. It shows they’re two warriors. Dallas didn't worry about that with Cam. Mallory didn’t worry about that with Jordan. Let destiny take its course and make informed decisions in January.

100% agree with this

Just my opinion, but once an individual that is an upper class man and sees a freshman named as Co-Starter, it sometimes can a bit frustrating to kids. The thought being once a freshman passes me it’s hard to pass them up, since they are the future.
I wish more kids didn’t have this mentality but it’s how it is these days.

It’s also normal for your circle/family to question coaches decisions and choices and I’ve been critical of things some of the D staff remember have done. BUT we are consistently really good on D so maybe they know what they are doing a bit.

also take into account, he signed with Miami as a CB, moved to safety and then transitioned to striker. The move to striker was welcomed because of big play opportunities, but it’s not always easy.

Its kam, its your opinion that bolden is leaving? Anything else u want to tell us?

Wouldn’t be surprised if Harrell is also shaking things up in that striker room.

My issue with the position is we stack it with the wrong guys. Yes we have versatile guys who play it, but our strikers need to be able to match up man to man with slot receivers. Given his background I’m hoping Gil can be that guy bc It’s constantly attacked and the coaches seem to like safeties there more than the traditional nickel corners that tackle well.

I love the idea of having an in the box safety when we play teams like BC that aren’t a threat to throw, but against UNC, Louisville, and others who spread you out, we need another corner there. I’ve been beating this drum since the position was put in and I’ve seen no game to game adjustments.

The things we ask of our striker is different then the things bama asked of minkah fitzpatrick

i didn’t mean it that way, more so he’s playing week one and with 2020 being the year it is that’s the only guarantee I will make. Both he and Smith have had good camps, if Gil gets playing time he will shine as will Smith.

But he gives 110% as a Hurricane so if he’s on the field in a canes jersey he’s all in.
Staff gotta get their $hi+ together.... no way Gil should be thinking about leaving this close to the season "if" he's starting or expected to get heavy PT. You have to tell him it's a "ongoing" competition , if you can't take it (like another poster already said) leave.... haven't even played one game to see who is better under the gun.. can't progress as a team with "public" cry baby $hi+ hindering the growth of this team. I thought we got past that Bull$#i+! C'mon Gil show some heart!

Btw...Gil was one of my favorite recruits in his class...hate to see him complain before one game... competition is what made Miami great....if all is true about him going public....this type of attitude is a locker room red flag imo....we should never hear about this stuff publicly....keep it to yourself cuz it makes you look soft...
