Frierson Smoke??

Ive been saying that since day 1. He’s a center fielder/ballhawk kinda guy. I’ve never seen him as a nickel guy. IMO it’s severely hampering the kids game
Frierson didn’t want to play safety because it was too boring for him. I would have liked him at safety too.

Who said this? And if he leaves I’d be kinda bummed. He’s got great potential and provides a great coverage presence to the striker position

Smh **** I told y’all these kids aren’t going to be happy playing striker once they realize it’s not all it’s hyped up to be. Just a glorified nickel that limits your impact on the field and potential your entire career. I bet if you ask Keontra Smith if he rather play striker or safety, he’ll say safety.
well for years we've seen kids suck at UM then ball out in the league. Striker position seems to work very well for the defense so not really concerned about career aspirations as it hasn't correlated to success for us in the past

Like who, in the last 7-8 years at least?

Yeah, I’m not sure I can think of a guy in recent history who wasn’t good here but was a great pro. We do see a lot of our guys get drafted late and then way outplay their draft slot but that’s on the league for undervaluing UM players.

If Gil doesn’t want to play safety he show not complain if there is someone better than him at the spot HE wants to play. Play safety where your skills best fit, not where you want to play. Make the business decision Gil!

Ever since we introduced the striker position, the starting striker has been either INT leader or tackling leader for DBs (outside of JJ playing safety in 17).

As far as the striker position goes, I think it’s much more beneficial having a safety type in a LBs role, but when that same player is asked to go play nickel on the next play, he can get abused deep (Frierson vs Van Jefferson (UF). Jimmy Johnson is credited as being the first to play DBs as LBs and LBs as DTs/DEs. It’s the reason Miami did so well against the option attacks of Nebraska and Oklahoma. I got faith Diaz will have the right 11 guys on the field.
