He reminds me more of James Stewart than Gore. Franklin doesn't have the burst or speed of Gore pre or post knee injuries

This is what I was going to say. Older Frank Gore was very much a power back and chain mover. Age and injury had really zapped most of his elite shiftinesses and straight line speed but he still had elite vision and balance even pushing 40 years old.
