Franklin Fired at PSU

If Penn State gets Matt Ruhle we need to go get Jacory Barney from Nebraska. Probably need to try to get him regardless but it'll be easier with Ruhle gone.
If Ruhle goes 9-3 or better this year at Nebraska he would be #1 on the Pedo State HC search list.

Matt Rhule?

Pretty sure that speculation originated from the office of the Nebraska AD hoping to avoid paying his bumbling coach's buyout

From someone on the Nebraska On3 board

Rhule played and coached there,

He worked at Temple with PSU AD Craft

He helped Craft get the PSU job.

Not as far fetched as it might seem.

Additionally, the buyout figure of $48.866 million was effective as of Dec. 1, 2025; with six games left on Penn State's regular-season schedule, Franklin's owed more than $50 million in buyout money based on his termination prior to mid-October.
As noted in multiple reports and in FootballScoop's own tracking, Franklin's owed more money from Penn State than the combined buyouts of previously fired coaches Sam Pittman (Arkansas), Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State), Trent Bray (Oregon State), DeShaun Foster (UCLA) and Brent Pry (Virginia Tech).

Not doubting that PSU's money men would settle for Rhule if they can't dislodge Cignetti from IU.

Just not sure Rhule is the prize hire people assumed after he rebuilt Temple and then Baylor

There's no rational reason for Cignetti to leave Indiana for Penn State given that IU is giving him every resource he needs, and Indiana doesn't have the title or bust expectations that Penn State has. IU will also pay him whatever price he wants.

Seriously - these Big Ten schools are rich as sin. IU's endowment is $3.32 billion. For comparison, the University of Miami's is $1.59 billion.

Does UCLA have the $$$ and gonads to make a run for franklin? Or are they happy with Jerry Neuheisel as their next head coach :geek:🤣.. I kid, I kid.

VA Tech would be the perfect landing spot for James Franklin.

Their AD should already have his contract drafted.
Can VT afford him?

That would help alleviate PSU's pressure as any funds Franklin accepts reduces his Happy Valley ducats...

Penn St. health generates over a billion dollars in revenue each year. They can afford $50m buyout. is it ideal? of course, not, but they can afford it and then sign another HC to a 4 yr/9m contract plus assistants.
