Former University of Miami players will be holding a roundtable on Thursday

I am sick of the nepotism within our ranks. We don't want someone who's only qualification is putting on cleats, walking through Hecht, and practiced at Greentree.

Wait, are they talking about Jimmy Murphy?

Little jr. is Bama bound and no one can hate on him for that.

These media people are funny. One thing I learned tonight is they don’t get real scoops from the program because staff and players don’t trust them. Nice people but they are clueless! We are blessed to get legit info from the legends on this site.

So, if hearing this correctly, former players want a former player as AD to run the athletic department - also Alonzo as a football czar role - and they're upset about the recruitment of a former player's son. Hey, we thank you for your service, but please step back into the real world.

These are the same former players who lobbied for Shannon and Coker as head coaches. Jankovich never played for Miami yet the program was elite during his tenure. Hire someone with experience who knows what he's doing.
Has anyone else noticed the similarities between these two names?

Sam Jankovich

Tom Jurich

Let’s do this.

This is why we need an outside, EXPERIENCED, QUALITY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR.

Sorry, but there are agendas all over that "roundtable" that are not good for what we are trying to accomplish here.

Please don't F this up.
Look at this perspective.... The people that run UM , that handle the money and decision making and such associated with it didn't get to where they are in life by throwing away said money every time someone stood on a soap box and screamed " They got money!!!!"......
If the former players want to have a roundtable or meeting or whatever they want to label it as then fine , go ahead and do it.... but in the end the people that really control things will have the final say so on all matters as they always have...

Naming conventions aside, I have said from the beginning Jurich is my #1, #2, and #3 choice of the names being thrown around. That probably means there is zero chance these incompetent morons hire him, but to me he's the clear choice.

I have no problem with Highsmith being the new AD whatsoever. I know Flake made it seem like rocket science, but it's not. That job is about strategic management, fundraising and communicating, and given his experience and background, he's more than capable. At the very least he could be the Deputy AD. Like it or not, he's going to have a prominent position in the athletic department, and I'm cool with that.

You talk as if these players are trying to subvert a competent athletics dept. Truth is, whether u like it or not, the plan they’re trying to implement is a lot more rational than anything the morons you’re caping for in this admin have come up with.
They probably don't have a plan.

this tweet by Barry shows just how utterly clueless and out of touch he is with recruiting and what is going on. you would think as much time he spends on CIS he would have a better clue.
Barry has larger problems to fry than UM recruiting

"They" are not a collective mind. They are all individuals that have opinions that anyone may agree or disagree with. Gino is not qualified in any way to be AD and I don't agree with the idea of him being AD. It does not mean they are evil.

Just like the Boosters at OSU or Bama who all think they know best and try to run the program you often take the good with the bad. Programs often need their money, power and influence but not always their opinions.

These former players also have power and influence and are trying to make positive change to more than just who will be the next coach or AD. Their intentions are legit and they truly want to get back to championship football. Many of them have sat on the sidelines for 20 years while this program has sank into oblivion and now they are trying to come together to effect change and our fans want to push them away....

I can't get a meeting with the president or BOT members, but some of them can. Why you would not want these guys on your side is baffling to me. You don't have to agree with all their ideas but wouldn't be more beneficial to work with them rather than push them away.

It seems it would be easier to get our opinions across to these former players than it is to the President or BOT. This admin has not been listening to fans for 20 years. These guys are actually interact with the fans.

I know I am wasting my breath here but my God, it seems this entire Hurricane community , including the fans, are all in our own way.
You are crazy if you think Gino isn’t qualified to run this department. Stop comparing him to Lynn Swann who sat on TV for years and co-starred in The Waterboy. Gino is a savvy business guy who is well respected by all not only at this U by former players, donors, BOT but throughout college football and the NCAA as a whole. Dude is doing just fine outside of athletics. You guys want Kiffin or Mario? Hire someone that played the **** game and will respect what they bring to the table not walk all over some phone admin like Flake.

The way I feel about Gino is that I would prefer someone with real AD successful experience, but at the end of the day, I really only care about football. Yes, I want BB and Baseball to do well, and when one of our olympians jumps into the spotlight, that's cool, but really it's about football. So, if a combo of Gino and Zo makes our football program dominant again, then I'll be all for it.

All that said, I'm still holding out hope for Jurich.

Tom jurich or GTFO. Tired of the nepotism
Luckily, Jurich played football. But, that's still a nonsense parameter for an AD Org leader. Jurich could have never played a down in bigtime football and his experience would still wildly benefit the University. And, sure, you can name Alonzo the Deputy AD or Director of Football Operations or whatever.

***We had a similar model under Sam Janko, where Janko didn't really play high level football (Jurich actually did), but was a football guy and a badass leader, and elevated respected football guys to positions around him.
