Former University of Miami players will be holding a roundtable on Thursday

Did any of the players that demanded Larry Coker to be hired EVER come out and say, "Hey, we made a stupid decision and it set UM football back two decades."?? If not, to **** with what any of them have to say now.

2 decades? That's a bit harsh. Can't say you can blame that on them. Maybe the next few years of Coker, but the rest was on the admin

You are crazy if you think Gino isn’t qualified to run this department. Stop comparing him to Lynn Swann who sat on TV for years and co-starred in The Waterboy. Gino is a savvy business guy who is well respected by all not only at this U by former players, donors, BOT but throughout college football and the NCAA as a whole. Dude is doing just fine outside of athletics. You guys want Kiffin or Mario? Hire someone that played the **** game and will respect what they bring to the table not walk all over some phone admin like Flake.
Do you actually know what Gino does for a living?
Do you actually know what an AD does?

I actually work in the financial industry and have worked with people just like Gino and people in his position. I am not sure anyone actually understands the business he is in or what he does. I will add, a lot of former college and pro athletes get in this business doing the exact samething Gino is doing. It does not make them qualified. Doing fine outside athletics does not make you qualified. Being a "savvy business guy" is not a job description or make you qualified. Omar, the guy who owns the car wash down the street could be a "savvy business guy" do you really want him as you AD.

This does not mean I hate Gino or that he is a stupid jock or even that I have some love affair with some coach. It just means there are other professionals out there who have years of actual experience and education doing this job, which makes them qualified.

Let's just say Gino does not have what the industry would consider the traditional qualifications for an AD position at a major university. You can't really argue this....

When you say plan is it really a plan or a list of people that they think are good fits the potential openings coming up?
If they had the plan they’d probably want the jobs themselves. Do you go into a voting booth with your own plan to fix the country?

The the specific people they want to get the jobs… yes, those people have a plan.

You know the New York ******* Minute Mario shows up here, former Teammates are going to be calling his *** at 3 a.m. expecting him, Mario Cristobal, the King of Recruiting, to save a spot on the starting lineup for Junior or one of the Grandkids.

Someone to aid in instilling the work ethic that was key to the past greatness of the Miam would be a wonderful thing. Could be a F/T position of some kind, could just be routine, regular visits by former players and coaches.

This does not mean said person should be AD. Find someone who has been successful at managing a college athletics department. If they meet that criteria they will understand the connection Miami should have with its past as the program moves forward towards its future. If they fail to recognize this, they are not qualified for the position of AD.

No, they got their NC ring.

If its just a list of candidates I'll pass. Search firms do this for a living.

When i vote for a candidate, I vote for their plan which they make clear before I vote.

Can you imagine the quality of Head Coach we could of attracted after that 2000 season instead of hiring Coker? We pretty much could of picked anyone we wanted to. Probably could of stole Nick Saban from LSU

Why would they? They got to run the show and had the best team of all time, one championship, and another stolen by a zebra. From their perspective they made the right choice.

I understand OP but the coker hire u can’t really fault the current players vouching for him

The Shannon hire its all on admin. Despite current/former players vouching for him its bad business to go from one failed internal first time head coach to another.

The buck stops with the folks writing checks.

They set this program back 20 years. Not the players

All of these former players need to put their $$$ where their collective mouths are and financially support the program.

In terms of other recommendations… I think having more former players involved with the program, such as speaking to the team, etc. is more self-serving to the former players’ egos than providing any tangible benefits.

An 18 year old kid has no idea who many of these ‘Canes players are who played in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
