maybe because it was a dade county case and they needed to grab him in marion.
Still, he didn't flee across state lines. It seems to be only a state case, not federal. Maybe U.S. Marshalls have some responsibility even inside states when incarcerated prisoners have to move between jurisdictions.

EDIT: This is probably the answer. From wikipedia:

The Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System (JPATS), nicknamed "Con Air",[1] is an agency of the federal government of the United States charged with the transportation of persons in legal custody among prisons, detention centers, courthouses, and other locations. It is the largest prison transport network in the world.[2] Though primarily used by the Federal Bureau of Prisons or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, JPATS also assists military and state law enforcement.

It definitely hurts more when it's one of your own, crazy and sad. Always seeing that same picture every year and for me personally I was there watching them take that picture that night.
Ya I remember it well I lwas right there midfield front row really sucked

Lake City, up near the Georgia/Fla border is not a usual place UM recruits from. Wonder how Rashaun Jones ended up here?

Per the UM Athletic Dept site, "(Jones) chose Miami over North Carolina State, Clemson, South Florida, North Carolina, Florida, Syracuse and Tennessee." In hindsight, sure wish he'd have signed elsewhere.

We recruited that area from time to time. Yatil Green was from Lake City and went to the same high school, I believe.

We had a couple of DBs from around Live Oak. Don't know if that is in the same area.

We never had anybody from Sopchoppy, which I always thought was the funniest town name in North Florida. I guess it's North Florida. I never hung out much in that area.

I despised that media article about the Pata story when it came out. It seemed like a cheap shot and hurtful to the Pata family. If it somehow put pressure on the cops (or whoever needed make a move) to finally do what they should have already done, then I'll raise my hand and apologize. It's pretty f'd up the media would have to do that to make it happen, but if it helps the family FINALLY get closure on this disgusting event, great.
It doesn't paint Bryan in the best light but it's an unflinching look at the details surrounding his death. If they left some details out it would've ruined their credibility.

Him and his teammate George Timmons both committed to UM same year.

SIAP...

Was this common knowledge amongst the team? That's a little disappointing

Locals/inner city dade UM fans...Isn't Pata's family Haitian? I mean I don't want to make this into some street ****, but I'm surprised there was never a hint of repercussion? Especially when police didn[t make an arrest after a while.

Was it the Maryland fans that taunted us that year with signs and stuff that mentioned Pata's death?
Yes, I was there. My group pealed off from the COH march from the parking lot once we went through the gate. Lots of finger guns pointed at me and my friends as we made our way to our seats, to go along with other disgusting **** said when they booed the team as they prayed in the endzone.

It takes a true piece of crap to kill a teammate,a brother. These dumbass dudes are willing to kill over a chick that isn't family. I'll never get it. BP and I had some common friends, and although I never hung with him, he was loved by his people.

I had friends that lived in that complex, people really thought dudes were just out looking to kill people. It was crazy at that time.

If Jones did this, I hope he gets significant jail time.

Sorry if my reaction came up negative; it was a slip; whole heartedly agree. I hope this dude never sees the day of light of freedom ever again. Strike this dude from our books too; this **** is no where worthy of being mentioned in our history.
