Don’t believe they can submit it because the portal isn’t open. Not an apples to apples comparison but the CBS report on LSU allegedly encouraging NFL players to sue to come back to college could cause Lane and LSU some issues. As an NCAA member they’re expected to follow the rules. No different in this case. Miami might not have been able to submit the paperwork because the NCAA could look at it as Miami is challenging the no portal rule.

Honestly Miami dismissing him probably did the kid a huge favor. It gives him an avenue to challenge the portal rules because he was removed. If he left on his own a judge might not be as willing to let him transfer.

From my understanding tho, the penalty to accepting a ghost transfer (a player who entered portal after it closed) is with the team who takes him.

So whether UM enters whim or not, doesnt really matter. Just transfer, and the team that takes him will pay the price.

I am not going to fault the kid for doing this. It’s really the only option for him. He just fell within the cracks of how the system works which we need to be updated for individuals that get dismissed late.

I personally think it if a university dismisses a kid, and he has the opportunity to enroll at another school before their enrollment deadline he should be able to without penalizing the school for accepting him.

Is there some double-secret "but my school gave me a waiver" backdoor loophole that allows dismissed players to enter the Portal that hasn't been open for 9 months?

Miami is powerless here.

Now, if the kid wants to sue the NCAA, that's a different issue.

No. That’s not the case at all. Lucas applied to enter the portal during the designated time period. Wisconsin refused to allow him to enter the portal. There is no currently open transfer portal right now. Even if there was I’m pretty sure every school is currently in session. You can’t just enroll in college in the middle of a semester

A lot of colleges haven’t even started classes. Kids should still be able to enroll. We made a dumb decision to take him in the first place if he was a bonehead. Whatever the reason, he’s not on the team.

The transfer portal opens again in January 2027. Is THAT the transfer portal the player is referring to?

He can enroll wherever he wants. BUT he cannot play football until 2027 anywhere that he does enroll. There was ONE portal for 2026 and that was in January. Simply abiding by the rules.

You're right, I should have qualified my statement. While you can't enroll whenever you want, you can certainly leave whenever you want and commit to another school whenever you want. Kids that leave halfway through the fall, for example, can commit to another school and just enroll in the winter.
 
Only place I care about him going would be Notre dame. We should still be able to beat everyone on the schedule

But I doubt lame would do that as they have higher standards than most

Colleges don’t let you enroll mid semester. It add drops are up for the schools he’s interested in, that’s his own fault for being an idiot

And to our knowledge no one is preventing him from doing that. He wants his cake and eat it too. He lost his nil and a semester of football. That’s the punishment. Grow up

Pretty sure all the Florida schools started already. Clemson started already.

Technically a student athlete can still leave a university anytime they want, and enroll in another university during that universities enrollment period.

The NCAA now has rules in place to address that loophole though. While there is nothing they can do to prevent a player from dropping out then enrolling elsewhere, there are potentially stiff penalties for any coach, and the university, for accepting a player outside of the transfer portal window. A coach can be suspended for a large part of the season for accepting a player outside of the transfer portal window and the university can be fined up to 20% of the sports budget.
