Former Miami WR Cam Vaughn has filed a lawsuit against the university and NCAA in Miami-Dade County

yeah just looked it up - he was kicked off in may not mid august.

Vaka informed WKU’s coaching staff of his mother’s passing and went home to Thousand Oaks, California the next day to be with his family and make burial arrangements.

He returned to campus on April 12 to meet with professors and coaches about his family situation. WKU allowed Vaka to complete his spring semester online, while he tended to his family’s needs in California.

Although players reported back to campus on May 25, Vaka spoke to an assistant strength coach at WKU on May 1 and was told the football staff was not expecting his return until June.

Mataele’s funeral service was held on May 9, and Vaka received no further contact from the coaching staff until May 25, when his position coach asked him where he was.

WKU chief of staff Travis Taylor called Vaka the next day and asked when he wanted to return to campus, to which Vaka replied June 14, so he could attend his brother’s graduation and sister’s promotion ceremonies. He even offered to come back sooner to prevent his removal from the roster.

this isnt going to go the way Vaughn thinks itll go since hes out here getting arrested and probably skipping meetings if i had to guess.

no diff than sam bruce getting kicked off when he did (RIP!).

its part of life. you break the rules, you get punished. part of that is this. he just wants to skate through life.
 
Aren't most colleges done with admissions at this point anyway? He's most likely going to have to live with the consequences of his action and sit out this fall. Hopefully he learns a valuable lesson.

Thats like transferring to Bama under the Saban years to compete at WR and you get mad that you not playing. Like bruh make a better move than. And the HC saying nothing is given just earned, I dont get it.
 
But wait...why arent we submitting his paperwork into the portal? Did someone answer that yet?

It's a weird one. I have come to understand what Vaughn's lawyer is TRYING to argue.

He is saying that there is a waiver form that might allow someone to go into the Portal AFTER it has opened/closed.

There are three primary problems.

First, this is the first year of ONE Portal window. Thus, whether the NCAA is going to allow a kid IN LATE AUGUST to enter the same Portal window that kids used in JANUARY is yet to be seen. My suspicion will be "no".

Second, the NCAA has similarly passed a rule in the past year to punish coaches/teams that try to pull a "Xavier Lucas" move to beat Portal non-facilitators such as Wisconsin.

Third, Vaughn would have to find a school that (a) hasn't gone past the enrollment date requirement, and (b) passes muster with the NCAA Clearinghouse (still a thing).

I highly doubt Vaughn can defeat each of these three obstacles. Certainly, his primary issue is not "if Miami ONLY gave me a waiver..."

The NCAA can’t allow him to enter the portal long after it closed, after being dismissed, and here’s why.

If they allowed this, it will embolden other guys to **** off in practice and intentionally get booted off the team so they can join another natty contending school that has a hole in their roster they can fill. Plus it’s another opportunity to score a big NIL check. Don’t think for one second a team like Notre Dame, Ole Miss, LSU, Oklahoma and any other team that could use another WR wouldn’t immediately jump at the chance to get Cam Vaughn.

As Miami, why do we care? Why not just grant him a waiver and let him deal with the NCAA? I wuld assume the NCAA doesn’t prohibit its members from granting waivers outside of a portal window. if no waiver actually exists that still doesn’t stop Miami from accepting a custom waiver agreement, drafted by Vaughn‘s attorney, conditioned on NCAA approval.

So to me, as long as the terms of that form or custom waiver don’t commit Miami to anything harmful, the easy move is to sign and get rid of the problem. This isn’t our fight. It’s the NCAA’s decision not to have another portal window. Let them deal with it.
