I absolutely agree with this. I fully expect it to happen, which is why I wasn't as fixated on the anti-Golden quest as the vast majority of posters here.

Golden needed to be gone. No question. The likelihood of weaving through the list of available replacements and coming up with a truly elite guy is so low that it's like being asked to hit a 5 team parlay.

It's indeed a parlay. You have to identify the right guy, which is a longshot to begin with, and then beat out all the other suitors, come up with enough money, and convince him to take the job, disregarding some of our issues like lack of a competent stadium situation by college football standards.

Lotsa luck. I'll root but I'm expecting more of the same, or only somewhat less pathetic.

A defensive type carries more upside. I tried to make that point in a marathon post last night. If you can hold the opponent to maybe 4.4 yards per play or less including particular excellence in pass defense, that suffocation is now so rare that it actually annoys the young offensive types who would prefer no defense be played at all. You can shatter their schemes, become the unquestioned tough guy, and rack up lopsided wins that shouldn't be as unexpected as they are, like Ohio State over Oregon last year.

Unfortunately, I expect the Canes to succumb to the popular notion that a cupcake offensive type is the solution.

Out of curiosity what makes a cupcake offense? Is it just an arbitrary thing you have created to support your arguments. And who runs a "cupcake" offense right now?

I would love nothing more to have Butch Davis as our coach.

However, I just doubt the BOT will let it happen for whatever reason, including the fact they are just plain idiots.

But, I've been saying it, if Hue Jackson will come here we NEED to get him. We absolutely can NOT pass up a coach like Hue Jackson, unless we're going for Butch.
After Hue Jackson, there's obviously the pipe dreams of Chip kelly and Chuck Pagano.

After those guys, Chud is next on my list, and I think he'd accept the job here if offered.

After all of them are guys like Stoops, Kiffen, Rich Rod, Herman.

And guys that I absolutely don't want are Cristobal, Schiano, and Fuente.

If Miami is serious about having a competitive football program there are only 4 choices they should be considering:

Proven guys:

1. Jim Tressel = guy is a winner. Find me another coach that is available with a better resume than this guy.

2. Butch Davis = responsible for assembling the greatest college team ever.


Up and comers:

1. Tom Herman = his offenses consistently have put up 40 PPG and 450 YPG. Imagine him selling his offense to all the playmakers in S FL. Developed Braxton Miller, JT Barrett.

2. Justin Fuente = like Herman, his offenses put up 40 PPG and 450 YPG. Developed Andy Dalton.


Terrible hires: Greg Schiano, Mike Leach, Mario Cristobal, Rob Chudzinski, Marc Trestman, Josh McDaniels, Hue Jackson, Matt Patricia, Jedd Fisch, James Franklin, Lane Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, and anyone currently on staff at Miami.

Why is Hue Jackson a terrible hire?
