Fire Diaz and revamp the coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball

I'll take Manny Diaz all day, every day. I refuse to pile on him simply because we had a bad game.

He's the perfect D Coordinator for UM.

If Baxa makes that field goal then Diaz's defense gets to take the field with the lead. Things could have gone very differently.

Feagles shanked three consecutive punts to start the game putting UM's defense behind the eight ball each time. That combined with the missed field goal really took its toll.

Im still a Diaz fan. Kendrick Norton leaving prematurely left a big hole in the middle of the D. Losing a **** good corner in Malik Young due to a career ending injury really hurt the depth chart.

I refuse to over-react due to a loss like this.

One bad game? You remember last year when all those QBs from garbage schools had career days against us? What's the excuse for that?

I'm so tired of these for the coach threads. It's been our reality for the last 15 years. I'm over it. We can't be this unlucky.

Coker
Werner
Shannon
Nix
Golden
Every coach under Golden
Richt
Diaz
Rumph
Banda
On and on we go.....

I just want some W's right now. At some point one would hope it would come together for us.

Disagree on Dan Werner. Go look what he did with Brock Berlin when he took over the offense in 2004 as compared to 2003. Wright had an above average sophomore season in 2005. Then went to ***** when Rich Olson took the offense in 2006. Any type of offensive play and we win 10 games.

So you think that was designed? Just like the long touchdown. Burrows audibles out of the play and runs beside away from the blitz. Inside of hold his gap for some unnotice reason the linebacker took himself out of the play. And then there was Mr. Bad Angles at safety. I don't think we need to blitz on second and 15 but good lord your kids have to play their assignments. A couple of kids on defense should be playing their last meaningful plays unless we are devastated by injury.

Now if you want to argue that you've seen enough of some of them then hear, hear, I agree.

If in year three your players take bad angles and miss assignments it means they arent being coached well, and or they dont belong here and the coaches failed to recruit properly.

Guys we went through this with Golden and Shannon before. When u get to year three the coach owns that team.

Yes, I think you will less and less of them hopefully. Dean got yanked for a true freshman in DJ and I thought DJ did well. Lost contain on one play but that is going to happen with a true freshman.

do you think part of the problem is hes a coach that never played the game?

I’ve said thus about 50 times on this board and folks called me crazy each and every time. You can get away with that as an OC, but I just don’t see how that works as a DC, when you have to teach tackling, toughness, and “Mindset.”

Perhaps it’s just me, but you have a better understanding of teaching angles and more importantly, defensive “mindset” and toughness (mental and physical) from having played and experienced. You can’t learn that **** from a book or from watching other coaches. I think it’s something one needs to have experienced in order to instill it into hearts and minds.

How can you instill a mindset of playing through pain/being hurt and finding that extra gear when you’re tired, if you’ve never experienced it on a football field your **** self??

And he uses words like violence etc, when he’s never ever used violence on a football field and he teaches tackling when he has never tackled anyone. When you watch him demonstrate on a tackling dummy it just looks odd

Is Randy Shannon still available to replace Diaz as DC/LB coach? If everyone is giving BBB, who bailed on Miami, a free pass, why not give Shannon a chance at redemption? He took a doo doo team to 9-4 in his third year. Pretty sure Richt is about to do the same.

Every single coach on defense needs to go.

The ex bar tender now Safety’s coach continuing to put the worst safety at FS when that guy should be your dog bc your defense should be strong up the middle. See Jamal Carter. Keeps trotting out his pet project Knowles. Keep Jaquan in the middle of the got **** field already.

The cb coach seems to not teach a guy to cover a slant. We line up in press & open up like it’s cover 3. No inch back step, no motor press, lack of physicality at the LOS...we don’t even weave in off coverage.

DL coach: who in the **** put in a back up Illinois DL in on 4th & inches. He didn’t even start at Illinois. Just not enough experience as a coach on this level.

LB coach/DC: idiotic alignment, idiotic schemes, LB’s appear to be under coached...mind boggling substitutions. It seems in year 3 wherever he’s been..gets exposed.

Striker Coach: another pet coaching hire..see the safety’s coach.

The CB coach that doesn't know how to cover a slant himself. Take a look at his highlights on the 49ers. You will find none. He is in other peoples highlight videos getting straight shook. The guy literally couldn't cover anyone in the NFL so they had to move him to safety.

**** that’s a great point

Seemed to me that LSU started about 75% of their drives around midfield. Think the resulting 5 field goals had a lot to do with that.

Add the pick six Rosier gifted them and all of a sudden LSU dropping 30 on us makes the number look far worse than the D actually played.

Not saying they played great but our punting and QB play made life ridiculously easy for their offense.

There were mistakes, but they averaged less than 5 yards per play, and that with a 50 yard romp.

I concur we have had and continue to have very low IQ coaches especially assistant coaches. I don’t understand why this is the case. If anyone knows about Miami players they need great teachers and strict disciplines. I see no one on this staff who even remotely fits that bill.

Replace the QB, fire the QB coach.

Should get the message across. No sacred cows.
Steve Walsh to replace Richt jr; plucking Bud Foster from VT would be nice, currently forcing fswho to negative rushing yards, but a pipe dream

You're saying a Senior Safety and/or a Junior DE make a mistake on that goal-line play?
The only logical design on that play would've been Jackson slanting inside to the B-gap. I think that's something he can grasp without ******** up.

That still shot isn't the only time I saw us lined-up funky. I saw us line-up plenty of times without an edge player. Shoot, on one play it was 3rd & 1 (maybe 4th) and the RB took a hand-off inside and simply cut left to the outside for the 1st down cause NOBODY WAS ON THE EDGE.

It ain't like this defense is full of Freshmen bro.

As bad as Diaz was Sunday night and as many issues as his defense seems to have, I will take the guy over Donofrio any day. Keep in mind that preferring him over No D isnt exactly a ringing endorsement.

The shame about Diaz and his defense is that the guy has the potential to be a fantastic coordinator but he refuses to tinker with or make any type of adjustment to it. You can see the potential but Diaz never seems to learn or grow as a coach. He has serious problems on 3rd down that are inexplicable to me. He refuses to apply any sort of gap integrity principle into his defense which for the life of me I can't understand and please spare me the whole live by the sword die by the sword crap. I just do not understand his philosophy on 3rd down particularly 3rd and long.

Another thing...

Our CB coaching is over-*******-rated.

Whether it's the position coach himself or the DC's preference...our CB's continue to give up inside leverage.
Michael Jackson got completely smoked on a quick slant because he opened up his hips to the outside right away and gave up the inside.
Our CB's NEVER take away the inside.
The scheme is the problem because he has them playing outside leverage with no inside help because all the linebackers are blitzing. Makes no sense. He needs to stop blitzing for the sake of blitzing and get a better feel for the game.

Of course Jackson should have slanted hard if that was the call. Somebody missed their assignment. How about DJax's late hit which in that situation was just ridiculous? The kid is a senior and should know better. How do you explain the first touchdown where the linebacker inexplicably vacated his responsibility and took himself out of the play? Diaz gets way too aggressive looking for turnovers. No problem criticizing that.
