Final Class of 2014 Q & A

Still don't understand what went wrong with Powell and how that is related to Yearby possibly choosing USF. Did the staff tell Yearby to play corner? Someone fill me in

The staff can't change the culture of south Florida football. But this is our main talent pool, so what we can do is adapt.

Embrace the **** handlers.

That's a nice thought and all but ****, look what we just went through by not doing jack ****.

I dunno. Slippery god**** slope.

There's gotta be more we can do, though, jhal.

I don't subscribe to the throwing up hands in the air bc we can't pay them way of thinking.

Like someone else mentioned earlier - support 7on7s more, establish relationships with these handlers, expose their "other" players by showing interest, etc . I'm sure al and staff have had to do some sort of shunning of these characters due to the NCAA mess.

I believe it had something to do with admissions delays...at least that was the excuse Powell gave, and there were rumblings about something with Yearby along those lines as well.

How many kids would have chosen us if not for our extra academic requirements?

This is a touchy subject bc if people know the truth about UM, they will realize there is no point in following the team.

Pete's silence on Yearby/Powell academics is telling.

They were not automatic um qualifiers, and as usual our joke admissions office took their sweet *** time deciding on them, at which point Powell said "**** it" and I don't blame the dude one hit.

Go follow Marshall or WVU then. Call me when they win something without their extra academic requirements.

And yet UF doesn't have these absurd standards, and thats where Powell went. WTF are you even talking about. UF is ranked ONE SPOT behind Miami and for most of this decade was ahead academically.

The academic requirements for Miami are not that difficult for athletes. What "absurd standards" are you talking about?

Miami does not use the NCAA mandated sliding scale. They require certain core class grades. While they may not be that difficult, all they do is create barricades for kids who would love to come here, but are told by UF, UGA, Clemson, OSU, and other schools in our academic bracket that they are good to go. Only to have us have to slow play them while our admissions office takes its sweet *** time making sure the core classes are what UM (and NOT THE NCAA) mandates.

Why should Miami not use the same standards as all the other schools in our academic category? None of these kids would be here without football anyway, so why the **** do we not adhere to the ncaa mandated entrance requirements? Do you think Travonte Valentine taking one more spanish class means he is now a serious student athlete and scholar? Get off your **** high horse the school is no better than Ohio State but wastes time making kids run through extra hoops that most big time programs don't have. It's ridiculous, accomplishes nothing, and costs us some **** good hard working great players.

BINGO
Why have a team if you try and have higher standards than your competition.

IF you are so high and mighty, then dont let 1 player in that doesnt meet your normal qualifications.
Its a double standard bs, fcking liberal fat waste of space.

td: spot on bro, spot on.

it's a massive hypocrisy frankly. It's all about appearances really. If they held the kids to actual standards they wouldn't be able to field a team at all, and wouldn't get to collect the 18 million dollar a year ACC payout b/c theyd be kicked to the curb. At the same time, they are so obsessed with the US News and World report rankings, that they are afraid that the slightly lower scores/grades of 5-10 kids a year that we SHOULD be taking, might ruin their precious climb up one more spot. It's a joke.

Beau Sandland...what $EC team was he going to sign with but couldn't because of some requirement that UM didn't have?

WTF are you even talking about. Grasp at those straws bro. DMoney just trashed you in his thread so you came whimpering over here to promote your "UM is infallible and perfect and better than Yale and the Yankees combined" nonsense. You'd have thought you'd learn a lesson after you vehemently defended Randy till the end.

I don't remember the specifics, but Sandland came here because he couldn't get into some $EC school for some reason. Look it up.

D$ didn't trash squat. He spouted more BS, like he usually does.

"UM is infallible and perfect and better than Yale and the Yankees combined"???? Who's grasping at straws?

Vehemently defended Randy til the end? Your memory is worse than your porsts, though I readily admit to being late to the fire Randy party.

Best prospect from south Florida who wasn't offered that you think would've committed on the spot?

Who's your least favorite commit?

Signee that we were the closest to losing?

Biggest steal of the class?

Quinton Flowers

Mayes

Yearby

Brady

yearby? Yikes again.

To who?

USF. Almost lost him in the same way they lost Powell. Luckily, Coley's relationship with him was too strong in the end.

If this is about academics, are we going to change communication or whatever we can to smooth out this? Are coaches pushing for something to change here?

Calm down dude. Powell had a 4.0. He most certainly qualified for UM. That was not the issue. The alleged reason for his decommitment is more of a technical issue, with not getting transcripts on time or something. Although it looks like D$ and others think that this was not the real reason for the flip.

Point is that UM's standards are not drastically stricter than UF's or other schools in our "academic category." Look at who fails to qualify for us. Look at where they go -- Marshall, prep, juco, etc. Not schools in our "academic category."
