Fan support for Cristobal?

Oh, they did. Ask @k9cane and CanesForever. Those dudes hated Butch so much that they literally tried to say that Pete Garcia was the mastermind behind any success that Butch had.
Yes, but now it would be much worse. By year three every other day there would be a new post on the firing of butch.

I remember some said he might not be ‘the guy’ but he could most certainly be ‘the guy before the guy’ meaning IF he doesn’t bring us to the promise land, he will absolutely have this program in a place where the next guy can come in and have immediate success.

I like Mario a lot. He cares so much for the program. I think he’s made changes when needed and he absolutely kicks *** getting the best talent possible. It’s just unfortunate it all hasn’t lined up yet. We got arguably the best portal QB again and the defense is a 180 from last year. It’s just unfortunate that we can’t switch those units from last year, because Ward+Martinez+24 WR’s+25 defense probably bring you to the national championship or semi at the minimum.

I think all in all he’s raised the floor now to be annually competing to win the conference and compete for a natty.

I just would like an ACC Championship and/or playoff appearance in Y4 after spending more money than anyone in the conference for the 4th year in a row 🤷🏾‍♂️.
Now don't go making reasonable requests. No place for that around these parts.

Tbh, I give 0 F's about an ACC championship. That's just me. I care significantly more about making the playofffs, then doing something in the playoffs.
Also, our fan base isn't the only one who has a certain segment of them expecting literal perfection. I just find it amazingly petty, childish and entitled. This is real life (sort of), not a video game.

He is unequivocally the best we can/will get. We are not going to be Bama. His default mode is Top 10 recruiting classes and dropping 2 games we should win. Let's hope we get lucky every other year or so where we only drop less than 2. I can finally stomach what I see on the field and watching the Canes no longer ruins my Saturday. After the last 20 years I am more than happy with this situation

Mario has done a unbelievable job of building this program back. Obviously, he couldn't have done it without the money. No one could have. We all know his strengths and weaknesses. He deserves a raise, no way I give him a extension. The man has 6 years left on his contract after this season which is ridiculous. Evaluate his job performance when realignment is happening, probably decided after next season. He would still have 5 years left then, ridiculous. Without realignment, will unnamed boosters pay a buyout or support a new coach like this? The truth is we have about 3 years to get that invite. Like any fan, his football weaknesses drive me nuts, but I also know the effort and accomplishments he has achieved, here. The drastic turn-around is huge and I want to thank him for that.

Average Miami fans couldn't tell you the names of the players or coordinators or even the result of the games.

They're extremely casual. Not a bad thing, but that will skew any poll.

Mario is a 9-10 per year coach. He has no real football IQ. He's also not ever going to be fired. The boosters/NIL people love him and don't care at all if we never even make the ACCCG.

There's 2 routes.

Mario has a few back-to-back bad seasons and leaves to save face.

Mario continues going 9-4/10-3 and retires from coaching eventually.

As parity increases, coaching acumen will separate the better coaches and Mario's advantages of "good" highschool recruiting will fall.

There also isn't really any development. Either a kid comes in and starts day 1, or eventually "contributes" when the portal additions don't live up to expectations.

I am not saying Mario is perfect. But I do think he deserves some credit for his willingness to adapt. Many coaches would have kept Guidry and called it a bad year. He fired him. Many coaches would have stuck with an offense that didn't work, Mario kicked Gattis to the curb and hired Dawson immediately. Many coaches would have relied on recruiting efforts and players in the building. Mario went out and hit a home run in the portal.

I think one thing that sets him apart from many other coaches is his willingness to embrace the new era of college football. We embraced the portal before most and it made a difference. He was a ready for the change and as a result, we were ahead of the curve instead of behind it (sup Clemson)

Lastly, this season in particular, Mario is a victim of his own success. If you asked before the season if we could skip the first six games and take these results, I am taking them 100 times out of 100. But once we started 5-0, the fanbase started pretending this team was supposed to be something it never was.

If he loses 2-3 more games that he shouldn't, okay, we can revisit his success here. But for now, I don't know how you can possibly be upset at where we are at today compared to where we were 3-4-5 years ago.

Good post mi amigo, but those two statements bolded above seem like quite the reach.

Gattis and Guidry were truly horrible in their final seasons at Miami. Very few serious programs would've brought either back for another try.

I mean what that crap are you talking about?? Seriously. We have sucked for better part of 20 years, and he has done a really good job especially considering the current CFB landscape.

SEC and BIG10 are propped up by the media, given every advantage available, and get benefit of doubts from recruits.

Many of these high level recruiting battles Miami is the ONLY non SEC or BIG10 team in the mix.

We have slaughtered FSU, UF, and USF in back to back years, we are getting more talented, we are winning bigtime games, have a good chance of back to back 10 win seasons, and he has us in the playoff mix back to back years.
Yeah but we lost a game. Therefore ergo ipso facto nothing has changed and we still suck. Bro.

A few more minor changes can go a long way. He obviously has done well to bring us back to being a respected brand. He has been willing to adjust when we have insane weaknesses so I imagine he sees them.

I want a more mobile QB who can allow us to get out of the stone age and into more zone-read stuff to threaten a defense. Rosier couldn't throw for ****, but just the threat of him running allowed us to be more successful than under Kaaya. There are guys out there like Demond Williams who aren't major recruits and can run/pass so there's no reason we can't incorporate that. Need to spread the field more on offense with more 3 WR sets. As we get better DBs, trust them and play press. Can't let teams dink and dunk us all game which is what they do every year when they realize they need to neutralize Bain so they throw it out in 2 seconds.

Fair. I don't disagree totally. But how many years did Mark D'Onofrio get before he was finally kicked to the curb?

I get it. Different era and different situation and Golden is a bad example of a "good coach". I just think there are a lot of examples where a coach's ego got in the way of the right decision. Mario seems willing to own mistakes and try to fix them.
