Fall Practice #1

I think Manny should have the QB’s switches jersey numbers so that no one knows who is in the backfield running the show! LOL

the rule should be on this site -- if you weren't standing on the grass by the fence at green tree or you weren't in the iPF when practice closed, you're not allowed to make some conclusionary statement

He went 10-10 (or something like that) against Rutgers in an actual game in front of 80,000 people. You don’t think the coaches have seen that?

in a game that was what? 52-3. i think that's the point everyone else is trying to make. he's not experienced and not even remotely experienced. he was a third stringer at OSU till burrow left and he obviously wasnt going to play this year there. the only QB w real experience is perry and we all saw the results last year (albeit w terrible coaching). none of us want to just blow up a 6 min highlight video of a dude playing in blowouts bc that may not be the dude were actually getting when its 0-0 on 8/24 in the first quarter and the UL DL is bearing down on them.

I’m not saying his 10-10 against Rutgers should win him the job. I frankly don’t care who wins. Best qb according to enos and manny is my horse in this race.

But the post I was responding to makes it seem like the coaches have no reason to think Tate will be good besides one scrimmage. I don’t think that’s accurate.

LMAO. How many times in the history of football have we seen one hit wonders. Further, what has he done HERE to deserve all the accolades? He certainly didn't look the part for most of the Spring.

All this about winning Summer workouts. So, every guy on the the depth chart is in their slot based on what they did this Summer? And amazingly it's all the guys we expected to be in the starting lineup.

See my other response to this.

I don’t care who wins the qb job. Relax.

Dude you realize that SOMEONE has to start first. Why not base it on who worked best directly before that point? Doesn't mean it's locked. Yet.
Right. You only saying that for the QB position. So, your telling me the depth chart is based purely on what players did in the Summer? And like I replied to blackvern, It's amazing that all the players slotted at 1st team we expected to start were the hardest workers in the Summer. I mean what are the odds of that? Wow!!!

Lets just sit back and relax and watch this all play out because tonight what if Perry gets the 1st reps of the night with the 1st team Offense.

Y'all gonna freak out over that too???
Everyone is going to get first team reps. Manny is going to try and keep the gator guessing which QB will start.

You just stated why the majority our 1st team because we know they're starting, we don't know QB yet. Some positions did have that question though, like Blades starting opposite Bandy. Not that he can't, it was just surprising.

My point is it doesn't appear that any of the other positions were decided on"Summer workouts."

You might want to go back and re-watch the actual video. Manny never said anything definitive about why Tate started with the 1’s.

“No, like I said, everybody took snaps with the ones, which is the way that it will work through the next two and a half weeks.” “I think Tate may have taken the first step (and in the video it’s almost looks like he meant to say reps or turn…) and that probably had to do with summer performance...”

Many normally speaks in a definitive way about just about anything. If it definitely had to do with summer performances he would have said so, I believe. Someone had to go first and it was Tate; I don’t think there’s much more to it than that.

It starts at 6:43

Now your saying, "what he meant to say." I don't think those comments saying "Take has taken the 1st step" had any place on day 1.

Anyone know what the QB's stats were yesterday? From what I can tell by just now sifting through this thread, it looks like Martell had 2 passing TD's, 2 Interceptions, and 1 rushing TD. I saw that Jarren had 1 TD, but that's about the only thing I noticed about him. Didn't really see anything about Perry other than he started out 3rd in the rotation, completed a few passes and under threw one. Anyone have the scoop?

I don’t know that the coaches kept stats that they were going to disseminate to the public, so if you’re going to get any stats, it’s going to have to be from someone that was there as a fan or as the media. And it probably is not going be very accurate.

My takeaway was that the QBs all had their moments, mostly positive I think, with a few negatives for each. And if you listen to Manny’s interviews post practice the take away is that it’s a dead heat on the three-man race.

This was not a practice to separate anyone out. This is was a get the cobwebs out type practice. Not even a scrimmage. Which is why I don’t think the stats were not anything the coaches were focusing on to give out.

Youre having trouble analyzing things in context. No one is saying any position is based purely on summer workouts, and every position battle is different. Hill is probably a starter but he just got here, etc. But in the battles where it is close with no clear incumbent, like qb, it's a pretty fair, sensible way to seperate on the first day.

And Idk what youre looking at but summer workouts seem to have helped decide, at least just for day 1, blades/ivey, Zion at LT, just to name 2 and I'm not even looking that hard, it probably had an effect on the entire depth chart in some way. Its the first day guys will move, have to start somewhere.
