F^ck Around and Find Out - Encouraging Signs, But Overwhelmingly Concerning Performance

Exactly, the name of the game now is simply score more points than the other guy. Whatever the defense gives you is cake. With our O we can hang with anyone I believe.
I’m hoping we see more turnovers on defense. Its what we need and we were very very close a few times last night

VTs OL really did a great job not allowing a splash play from our DEs as well but I think we will see that happen more

If the defense can bow up and hold the other team to field goals then I like our chances

We knew their QB was going to give us trouble and we didn’t stop him. The DLine was pushed around and VT was running to our open side and they were getting big yards because of missed tackles. 20-30 yd runs…we couldn’t stop it.

Think we need to move Porter back outside. I know we have limited options at nickel, but Porter ain’t it at nickel.
The DBs feel a bit like how our OL was for about 10 years before Mario got here

If an injury would happen then it was shuffling guys into positions that made the problems worse because we don’t have depth

Not saying Brown is a world beater, but if they felt good about him at nickel then his injury becomes problematic with lack of depth like you’re saying

This thread proves that CIS is always week to week. There can be no acknowledgement that college teams have been playing up and down regardless of competition since i started watching in the 80s.
Last year Bama almost lost to Arky and USF, Wash to Stanford and ASU, Michigan to Maryland. Great teams struggle once or twice per year and all others are a crapshoot week to week.
That being said, let’s fire all our coordinators and start over again because we struggled with an highly motivated team who played their asses off and have a lot of NFL talent. Not to mention with a QB who is one of the better Dual Threat QBs when he’s on.
I can’t even imagine what’s gonna happen if we ascend back to the top. The mental fragility of our fanbase is nearly unmatched

My It would also help to ya know, give Bell some help with a TE lol but tf do I know
Sure. No doubt he could’ve used some help. Need to also remember that APR is the nation leader in sacks. I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I think Mario’s post game on field TV interview said it best:
We were sloppy but we won. Loads of things to work on.

I prefer rolling teams too.

Neg me downvote me all you want

This isn’t a good football team.
How do you define “not good”.

Not good as in won’t win the NC? because that really should be defined as “not great”

But if you mean “not good” as most define those words, then “not good” means “bad”. And if we are a bad football team we should not be 5-0.

APR started the game lined up across Francis and didn't get ****. Then they switch him to Markell side and he started to get going

The way fans try to carry one game over to the next is still just astounding

Defensively it just seems that QBs that can keep plays alive and not get sacked are going to kill us.

They constantly moved the LOS and shifted gaps, stretch runs, etc and made our defense guess, miss gap integrity, and get out of position and we could never effect the QB. Even when we did, he made big plays out of it. The biggest plays came off script when we’re dragging him down or 15 yards out of the pocket.

I don’t think the defense has that issue again. When we get pressure like we did and move the QB out of the pocket, they’re not making those plays. Maybe Haynes King, maybe Malik Murphy. That’s about it.

Theres nothing about this team that “concerns” me

We sat here for months discussing exactly what we thought our issues were and that’s exactly what we are seeing

I guess if I had something that has surprised me is the lack of running but this was going to be a pass first offense

The team will go as far as Cam Ward takes us and that shouldn’t surprise any of us
100% correct. i think the ward hype has distracted some people from this, but we knew we had question marks all over the defense (and the secondary in particular) coming into the season. it is what it is.

Here’s the thing. Despite all the perceived failures of our offense last night. We still outgained VT by over 100 yards. We still averaged over 7 yards per play and over 5 yards per rush. On the list of reasons why Miami almost lost, the offense (including the running game) is near the bottom. The reason that game wasn’t another blowout victory was because the defense forgot how to defend the run and Cam turned it over 3 times. I said it after week 1 and we’re going to have to live with occasional Cam turnovers because he’s trying to do too much sometimes and he’s willing to take risks. But if our defense doesn’t figure out how to stop a running game, especially when the opponent is struggling to pass, we are in trouble.

Run defense is a WAAAAAAAAYYY bigger concern for me than our run offense.
