Evan Shirreffs Commits to UM

Putting aside the coaches and the ghost of Daniel Stegall, I actually like this kid.

Curious what others think of his ability. My quick trigger thoughts:

- Elite size and surprisingly coordinated for someone who just had a growth spurt. His brother is a D-1 Wildcat QB, so there is athleticism in the family

- Strong arm. My initial impression is that he has more pure arm strength than Kaaya and Rosier. His accuracy looks very good as well, but these are highlights

- Poor competition

- Can't tell anything about his mental game -- never has to move past the first read

Hard to see what kind of player he is with the bullets flying, but I like his tools. His production and off-field character appear excellent, and there are genuine reasons why he slipped under the radar (sat behind D-1 brother until junior year, got hurt, small school). Worth the offer if only for depth purposes.

Exactly. This kid has a lot of "diamond in the rough" potential. We don't see much of this anymore at all. But there are some legit reasons why he seems to have fallen through the cracks. Kid is smart as **** though, and has great measurables.

I mean WHY NOT? Seriously. F*Ck. What else do we have to lose at this point?

I remember the good days when regardless of how good of a prospect a kid was, we would welcome him to the U. Now we just talk about how much they suck compared to other recruits. Good luck Evan, welcome to the U.

From Lawson the stud to this nobody. Smh.

We edged out Columbia and VMI, though, so I guess Lemming was right, Golden is a great recruiter.

Again, the options were holding our d*cks and Gray Crow if Kaaya goes down. Lawson ship sailed. We are f*cked until Golden gets bought out. We NEEDED someone backing up Kaaya. This kid actually looks like he has some potential.

Not like we had many other options at this point.

You seem to be missing the point.

We shouldn't BE in this situation. Your fat girlfriend Al Golden is the reason this nobody got a scholarship.

This kid is a wasted scholarship being brought in because of Golden's failures.

That isn't something to celebrate.

We've been in this situation before. Several times, including during our best years.

You mean when Ethenic Sands was the backup up Dorsey? Yep I remember that.

I do too.

Tall, skinny, nerdy, white QB.

Clearly he's the next Ken Dorsey.

I have no real opinion other than he adds to QB depth, which is needed. Cannot hate on him for getting offered and committing.

Welcome to the U, Kid!!!!! (or what's left of it)

Amazing FSU, OSU, USC are allowed to sign a stud quarterback every year. Someone should lift the debit blockers on our QB account and let Golden know it's permitted.

I don't see how a kid who isn't considered a potential starter can also be a ''solid backup type''. Eventually you will have to get on the field instead of providing moral support, can he play or not?

I hate al just as much as anybody but it's not cool to trash the commit

To be fair, FSU's projected starter next year only had one offer (Buffalo) before Coley found him.

Did I miss something, isn't Rosier the back up? Why is everyone talking like Crow is next man up?

With Rosier playing baseball you never know. Could stick to baseball, get hurt, misses lots of spring work every year. You have to treat this like Rosier isn't even on the team

I blame the other bum corch in our athletic department for our lack of depth at QB. Jim "Just Collecting Paychecks Now" Morris.

Watching the tape there he has really nice ball placement. I mean like over the linebackers shoulder in front of the safety, and while he's mobile he's more accurate than most. It's a really quick release on his throw but the one thing I noticed on a few throws is that on some of the deep balls he seems to change shoulder slots. If you're unsure what it means, it means that in stead of over the shoulder like on most of his throws he moved to a 3/4 slot.

no. we want to look at his offer sheet and judge him based on that and only that. ***** tape of his game or any rational thought.

The kid looks pretty good. Needs to put some weight on dat frame but he is accurate and has a lot of potential. Fluc folks trying to put him down.

So he's not the second coming of Bernie, Vinny, Gino, or Dorsey. But to be honest, his tape looks at least as good as Jacory and Snickers in HS and they were our STARTERS for five years for God's sake! Happy to have him as a security blanket in case Kaaya for down until Allison comes in 16. Welcome to The U, kid.

Go Canes
