Evan Shirreffs Commits to UM

Anyone who gets excited about this should kill themselves.

Not really getting excited like I was with Kaaya but it's definitely not a bad thing. Don't care what anyone says this kid is solid. Might not be great but it's a position of need and you should take a QB every class regardless of how your depth chart looks

Putting aside the coaches and the ghost of Daniel Stegall, I actually like this kid.

Curious what others think of his ability. My quick trigger thoughts:

- Elite size and surprisingly coordinated for someone who just had a growth spurt. His brother is a D-1 Wildcat QB, so there is athleticism in the family

- Strong arm. My initial impression is that he has more pure arm strength than Kaaya and Rosier. His accuracy looks very good as well, but these are highlights

- Poor competition

- Can't tell anything about his mental game -- never has to move past the first read

Hard to see what kind of player he is with the bullets flying, but I like his tools. His production and off-field character appear excellent, and there are genuine reasons why he slipped under the radar (sat behind D-1 brother until junior year, got hurt, small school). Worth the offer if only for depth purposes.

Goodness, I hope not. To my untrained eye, his arm looks kind of average, and he really needs to drive the ball with his legs and body to get it there in a hurry. But I could be wrong.

Kid had a 4.0. Should have gotten him an academic scholarship and let him walk on the team.

The kid is the #3 QB in Georgia and was the MVP of the FLorida vs Georgia All Star Game.

Articulate young man as expected

His tape looks rather adequate. I think a Ryan Williams comp is fair for now.

IMO a wasted scholarship is Al nephew on the team, along with some of the other NJ kids no one has heard of before, at least there is proof this kid played football before

Holy SH*T. That's ****ing huge. This kid actually looks pretty decent. Smart as **** too. Ideal back up type kid for Kaaya. This is a very positive development if true.

Landing a kid with a grand total of two offers from Columbia and VMI qualifies as f***ing huge nowadays?

Unbelievable...

You have to look into his story a bit. He really hasn't had much exposure. Kid was injured a lot and didn't get a chance to play much. He broke his thumb his Jr. year but he actually looks pretty good when you see some of his film. 4.0 student. Georgia wanted him to walk on and try for a scholie.

I don't think he's a potential starter, but he looks like he could be the ideal back up QB type. A Ryan Williams type kid.

Considering we got left holding our d*cks with NO QB in this class, and right now might have to field Gray Crow if something happens to Kaaya, yes, I would say this is a pretty good development if true.

Are you suggesting that Grey Crow is the only player on the team that can play QB? How do you know he's not capable? Interesting assertions, is there a basis or you just making the point that right now "might" have to field? Scuttlebutt, DJ's dog? ;-)

If he was such a solid pick up the coaches wouldn't have waited until NSD was over to offer this kid. They obviously don't value him as much as CAPS does. He's just another body for numbers purposes.

Thats not how you run a program.

Better than Ryan Williams was out of high school and he turned out fine and could have started here if he wasnt hurt. Not like we are asking this kid to be a starter anyway but it beats the **** out of Gray Crow as a potential backup.

This kid actually reminds me of Williams, tall and lanky not a cannon arm but completes a high % of passes. could have done better but for a guy that should never be more than a backup.. I'll live with it

How so? Ryan Williams had offers from more than 1 D-I school out of high school, Memphis and Eastern Michigan. That's already better than Evan's offer list.

You forgot about Rosier as the backup to Kaaya. Crow is clearly #3.

Terrible offer list, but the highlights (always to be taken with a grain of salt since they're highlights) don't look bad at all. Welcome to Miami.

My post was made on the basis that the kid looks pretty good. He may not amount to **** but he alternative was standing there with our sick in our hand with no QB in this class. I only started reading up on this kid yesterday but I liked what I saw. Not as some big time prospect but as a potential under the radar kid who could be serviceable for us. We needed a body at QB in this class.
