Evan Shirreffs Commits to UM

Holy SH*T. That's ******* huge. This kid actually looks pretty decent. Smart as **** too. Ideal back up type kid for Kaaya. This is a very positive development if true.
I can't stop laughing at this post.

Yeah it's pretty funny.

Will say, I hate on Golden as much as te next guy but I don't mind this pick up. Obviously Lawson is a much better prospect but I don't mind this kid, he has some tools.

Agreed, and to be honest he looks better than Rosier.

Landing a kid with a grand total of two offers from Columbia and VMI qualifies as f***ing huge nowadays?

Unbelievable...

You have to look into his story a bit. He really hasn't had much exposure. Kid was injured a lot and didn't get a chance to play much. He broke his thumb his Jr. year but he actually looks pretty good when you see some of his film. 4.0 student. Georgia wanted him to walk on and try for a scholie.

I don't think he's a potential starter, but he looks like he could be the ideal back up QB type. A Ryan Williams type kid.

Considering we got left holding our d*cks with NO QB in this class, and right now might have to field Gray Crow if something happens to Kaaya, yes, I would say this is a pretty good development if true.
Did Rosier get abducted?

It's always going to be hard to recruit qbs when you have a true freshmen all American on the roster. This is a fine pick up under the circumstances.

Goodness, I hope not. To my untrained eye, his arm looks kind of average, and he really needs to drive the ball with his legs and body to get it there in a hurry. But I could be wrong.

That's why it's always good to judge arm strength live, IMO, because different people see different things on tape. Is his arm that strong, or is he just throwing with great anticipation against slow DBs?

I see a guy who drills it on in-breaking routes, squeezes in some tight seam throws, and hits receivers down the field in stride. Between 2:00-3:00 is a really nice array of throws.

Another decent find for James Coley

At worst, this kid will be a Greentree AA.

And he will bring the team GPA up!!

People need to stop saying this is a "find" by Coley/Golden. Everyone knew the kid went unsigned on NSD and everyone knew Miami whiffed on QB this year. Is was an offer out of desperation. Nothing more, nothing less.

And for those of you who blame us not signing Gibson or Lawson because of Kaaya, what's your explanation for OSU pulling Gibson with three stud QBs up there?

Winning national title with a superstar head coach has its advantages

Exactly my point. Kaaya being here didn't mean **** w/r/t Gibson signing elsewhere.

The kid is the #3 QB in Georgia and was the MVP of the FLorida vs Georgia All Star Game.

Wait so Georgia high school football is better than Florida high school football?

Watching the tape there he has really nice ball placement. I mean like over the linebackers shoulder in front of the safety, and while he's mobile he's more accurate than most. It's a really quick release on his throw but the one thing I noticed on a few throws is that on some of the deep balls he seems to change shoulder slots. If you're unsure what it means, it means that in stead of over the shoulder like on most of his throws he moved to a 3/4 slot.

no. we want to look at his offer sheet and judge him based on that and only that. ***** tape of his game or any rational thought.

That and stars....stars handed out by some chubby 5'9" guy who never put on a football pad or helmet in his life.

Actually, there was a time when this all star game was THE all star game in the country. All the best talent from Florida and Georgia played in this game back in the '80's. The game was filled with USA Today All Americas. I remember Derrick Brown, TE Notre Dame: Darryl Spencer, Miami:Charley Ward QB for Georgia, Warren Sapp and Lamar Thomas..so many others. The game was usually played in Orlando and Bill Buckhalter from the Orlando Sentinel picked the Florida squad. That was before the big national all star games like the Army and Marine games. I think that's what relegated the Florida-Georgia game to being second-tier. Still, I'm sure not every good Florida or Georgia kid gets into the big national all-star games, so I'm sure we've had a number of decent kids who played in that game.

Yes, Georgia used to play Florida very tough and often enough, won.

I don't even know if the current Ga-Fl game has any connection with the old one. Those games in the '80's were awesome. I did all I could to get tapes of them.

Lets be honest here.. this kids film is LEGIT.. seriously LEGIT... What you're looking for in a qb is can he make all the throws and can he do it from all the styles.. On his film, he's making the short, intermediate and deep throws, and he's giving you shotgun throws, under the center throws, roll out throws, play action throws, screens, and double moves...

I like the pick up... His film goes pound for pound with any PP QB in the southeast... ***** the stars... if you don't camp or come on late in your high school career, trust me, RIVALS, ESPN, 24/7, nor SCOUT know a thing about you...

Are you saying that Rivals et al will know nothing about you if you don't camp or come on late? It's ambiguous. I would agree that even the big scouting services still can't find everybody. I suspect they identify a universe of names and continue to just watch these guys over and over as the recruiting process goes on.

That guy whose interview was posted in another thread--he claimed to have visited hundreds of schools. I don't know how that's possible He can't sit around for a full afternoon interviewing coaches, watching film, talking to kids. Maybe they do visit a lot in Florida, but if it's a smaller school in Georgia, maybe he doesn't.

I still think there are a good number of under-the-radar, underappreciated and underrated guys.
