Ephraim Banda

Yikes. If you're going to hire a rookie position coach like this, I'd almost rather him be an ex cane or a local guy.

Guy was a bartender for 7 years and then went back to school to play college football.

Now, he is the safeties coach at Miami.

They make movies about this ****.

Weird hire. I get that it's only Safeties but Richt has no relationship with this guy so this is strictly a Diaz hire. Richt's got a lot of trust in Diaz right now.

It's a little scary knowing that we've got two young bloods coaching up DBs especially considering how weak our secondary is. I really hope they can put it together because we're going to rely on some inexperienced players this season.

It's really not weird at all. Richt has hired Diaz to the HC of the defense because Richt will be neck deep in calling plays and coaching QBs. He's letting Diaz pick his own guy at a very significant position in Diaz's defense.

I get that but why not go after a guy like Deshea Townsend then? He helped coached DBs under Ray Horton so even though he only coached CBs the past few seasons he's got more experience coaching Safeties.

I'm sure Tony Hughes would have been the first hire for Diaz but he obviously took the job at Jackson State.

How well does Diaz know Townsend? Diaz obviously loves Panda and thinks highly enough of him to coach an integral part of his defense. We're going to find out how it all goes in about 8 months.

My bad, should have mentioned Townsend was the CB coach for Diaz last year. But agreed, something to definitely keep an eye on in the spring as well.

MS St secondary was a okay unit....ill reserve judgement on this hire....

Panda didn't coach them.

Devils advocate, he has been coaching the secondary for a while and exclusively with Miss State, albeit without a big title.

Could've done better. At least Rumph and Banda are only focusing on one unit a piece

Their secondary also led the nation in fewest 20+ passing plays for whatever that's worth

Based on everything i have read/seen, their safeties played deep for that reason.....so i think it had more to deal with scheme than anything.

But this guy knows Diaz's defense.

I like how we're integrating the staff. Let's say we brought in some grey beard DB coach who doesn't know Diaz's system. That's not a good fit.

Bottom line is Richt is all in on Diaz. Let's hope it works out.

I could have sworn I heard on this board that Manny Ds weakness was susceptibility to big plays.

Chalk another one up to made up facts to support hate.

At what point do the mods just end this and ban the trolls?

My problem is how long Richt waited. He wanted the 'right hires' not fast ones. He ends up with a HS DB coach and another without college coaching experience beyond GA-level. I can understand those type of hires, but not on defense.

If Richt grabbed a young TE or WR coach (or kept Beard) I get Richt's hands-on involvement with the offense can offset that inexperience.

Alabama's OLB coach is very green, but he's surrounded by high-level defensive position coaches and Saban himself.

Once again, Right is just killing it... He has loaded this staff with guys who are hungry and ready to kick ***... Love it!!

Seems handpicked to implement Diaz' methodology. Should be married to your excitement/trust of that hire.

I am convinced that FullyNoDick is a fake poster that the mods made up to get more clicks.

He stretches out every thread right when its about to die about 3 or 4 pages with people telling him to go die.

Go figure....

If he isnt fake I would love to see him go join ISIS. He would self detonate 3/4 of their members after hearing him talk for 2 hours.

FullyE: LOLOLOL! This kid was in 4th grade last year and now he's Coordinator of Suicide Bombers? Another epic failure by Abu Bakr al- Baghdadi. Al Quada just hired Bin Laden's son, and this is who we get? Mark my words, when the suicide vests aren't detonating properly next year, I don't want to hear anyone who supported this hire to...

ISIS: Aaaah! Death to all whiners and complainers! Allah is great! KABOOM!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but didn't every current highly regarded coach start as an moderately experienced coach? Don't they start as positions coaches and maybe switch programs a few times before being more desired by DC's, OC's and HC's? Then eventually get their first coordinator job as a FIRST TIMER? All his hires have been strategic and appropriate. I think it would benefit many here to check the profiles of your preferred coaches to see how the process works. When coaches work with different guys they know who can coach and who understand their system and works well with them. Smart will do the same at Gawgia, but difference is budgets. Trust the process and let it play out before getting your panties in a bunch. Many of ya'll will swear it wasn't you when these guys prove their worth.

This is actually pretty funny.

Well I'm guessing the waiting revolved around hiring Manny Diaz. From what's been talked about Aranda was the first choice and that probably took up most of the time. LSU offered a lot more so he had to go with option 2 (or 3 or 4 or 5). I think Coach Kool was the only slam dunk hire he cared about prior to having a DC knowing that he wouldn't last on the market.

Once he got Diaz in place I'm guessing he asked for his input in who he would want on his staff and then went after them. I'm sure they didn't just reach out to Rumph today. They've probably been talking to these guys for the last few days.

Just ignore the fully erect guy. Put him on ignore. Just quit entertaining him by talking to him. If he bothers you. I just skip right over anything he says.
