I'm gonna give my man Bambi a chance to prove himself. He seems like a hungry and hardworking coach, so let's see what he's got.

I agree. Diaz isn't hiring Kung Fu Banda blind. Could it be a mistake? Sure, but I feel like everyone has gotten too used to poor hiring and have embraced a negative bias as a result. There have been plenty of coaches that were hired by Miami in the past that turned out to be amazing and those that turned out to be D'Onofrio. I'm happy that there has been a large amount of turn over in the staff and there will likely be a new sense of purpose at the Hecht.

Seems liked and respected by his former players and coaching colleagues. So he was a GA the past few years and not a titled assistant coach. Big deal. GA's at big programs are essentially the same as position coaches minus the pay.

He learned under db coach Duane akina at Texas who was one of the best db coaches in the nation who is at Stanford now

But...but...but...isn't he the reason Diaz was fired at UT?

How is he the sole reason he was fired? He was also there when Mack brown was good at Texas and recently left to take a job with David shaw at Stanford. He is definitely not a bad coach if that's what you are implying

why do people have an issue with hiring a guy who was a cb and in college and elite one in rumph just because he coached in hs last.

id like to point out most of those *****ing probably love art briles. guess what he was a hs coach for like 15 yrs before baylor gave him his hc start.
michigan hired some hs coach and just promoted him to position coach and people on here talk about it being a godo hire.

gus malzahn started in hs as a coach and came into college and has been a solid coach as an oc and hc. so rumph could be a great hire b ased on that give him a chance to prove it.

banda earned his promotion has been coaching as a ga for a few years. people act like no one in college should get promoted on this board. if u worked a job for 5 yrs would u want to still be a **** intern? really give them a chance.

I agree and I would like to back you up, not that you need it at all.

Rumph, as we know, was a hs/hc. But, what seems to go unnoticed is who his two coordinators were. Patrick Surtain and Oronde Gadsden. Aside from the fact that Rumph is recognized nationally, by practically everyone who's anyone in high school football, as the best around and these two guy's know quality.

That's why they coach for him and allow their son(s) to be coached by him. He's quality through and through.

Banda is probably the most unknown of all the coaches hired so far. I did my research and this guy has proven to have total understanding of the position he will coach.

I could list all the stats but, I'll let those of you who haven't and are complaining simiply because "you don't know him". Go do your own.

But, here is one stat he possesses that fits perfectly with the Diaz defensive scheme - While at Mississippi State, he allowed the fewest number of plays over 20+ yards. Important here because all aggressive defensive schemes will sooner or later get burned. It's just the nature of the beast.

I realize some need an antidote for The Great Golden Hangover. Mine came at the hiring of such a proven high quality coach like Mark Richt. I know he knows exactly what needs to be done and who he needs to help help him do it.

Mine's cured . . . Hope yours is cured soon because the future at TheU is bright!

i agree future is bright. miami hasn't hired a coach with this pedigree ever. richt alone gives us a legit shot at coastal and 10 wins. diaz is a solid dc but not a homerun but the rest of staff is made up of young up and comers ala brown rumph, banda or elite coaches als kulgowski, searles.

I mean it's not shocking that the best Richt could pull was Panda and Bumph.....Not a lot of coaches want to work for an arrogant know it all whose last major gig ended in epic failure.

I mean seriously, thank god we locked up Kool before Diaz. No good coach is going to want to be coordinated by Spanish Dorito, it's a career killer.

jesus, shut up. you sound like a petulant child.

This guy sounds a bit racist to me. Hope I'm wrong.

Hey, I heard right here that Diaz's disaster at Texas was caused by the bully DB coach not allowing him to run his defense. And, to clarify, I didn't say "sole". I also didn't imply that Akina was a bad coach. I was poking a little fun at the notion that the DB coach really ran the show, which is horse ****.

While Duane Akina appears to be a very good DB coach, he left Texas because he was not kept on by Charlie Strong.

I may be in the minority , but the task of strictly coaching safeties may be a plus for his inexperience .

LOLOLOLOL an absolutely miserable hire again. It's obvious Diaz doesn't want any real coaches running his secondary who dare to challenge him when he gets roasted by every passing offense he faces. Aside from Coach Kool our new Defensive staff is no more experienced or qualified as the old one. Truly pathetic job here by Richt allowing Diaz to hire amateurs.

Don't Jump!!!! It will be okay, it will all be okay. I hear your concerns. I'm maybe 3 notches above
"wait and see". But, he's a proven winner. So, I'm very confident he knows what he's doing.

But, if you think Richt has no idea what he's doing . . . read on.

I wonder how he ended up on the list of most wins in his first 15 seasons ranked 4th in the history
of college football. Only Stoops, Switzer and Osborn rank ahead of him.

Do you really think Richt doesn't know what he's doing hiring these guys? These aren't quick decisions.
They are well thought out and are all meant to fit in with what he said:

"I want a very aggressive 4-3 cover 2 shell".

This is what most fans have wanted and miss from the great Canes of the past.

So, lets look at his first two Defensive hires and how they fit his defensive strategy.

His first defensive hire "Kool" the best DL coach in the SEC, if not in the country, according to some.
A guy who creates sacks and tackles for loss at an alarming rate. Call it havoc in the backfield!

He then brings in Diaz as DC and LB coaching experience, who's defenses have had some weaknesses.
But, they also had some great successes. Like producing more turnovers over the last six years than
any other DC. Forcing 40 turnovers in 2014, alone.

So, a monster D Line rush blitz with LB' stunting forcing fumbles and creating havoc in the backfield!
While our DB's are covering and picking off lots of forced int's, call it ball hawking!

If you want this aggressive ball hawking defense you're going to give up some yard's and points.

But, we won't die by a thousand cuts as we did with Doritos.

I now see why he hired who he hired. So, I don't know about you but, I don't think I would second
guess Richt. I know, he knows, how to get the defensive strategy he wants. And I'm going to
give this guy the huge benefit of the doubt. Why? Because he's a proven winner, period!

Amen! I like what Richt is doing. Looks like man cover corners and at least 7 savages in the box to wreak havoc! Fullyflacid should reconsider and enjoy the new mentality! Go Canes!

You do realize Diaz does not like to run man coverage, yes?

Excited for the opportunity as CB coach at the U
Excited for 4-3 blitz/ man to man
Already have really good players but will be knocking on doors locally
Not currently recruiting
Has meetings this week to discuss going forward
Coach Richt is family oriented man (we already knew) Mentioned Sony in reference to this
Will not be involved in AH hiring process. Has received so many calls since his new hires
Rest of AH staff he expects to stay together for the most part. Really likes Surtain Sr.

Coach Rumph on WQAM this morning.

We shall see. Up to this point he has not run man to man other than the last year at UT. Its detailed in the breakdown thread.
