Don't they start as positions coaches and maybe switch programs a few times before being more desired by DC's, OC's and HC's? Then eventually get their first coordinator job as a FIRST TIMER? When coaches work with different guys they know who can coach and who understand their system and works well with them. Smart will do the same at Gawgia, but difference is budgets. Trust the process and let it play out before getting your panties in a bunch. Many of ya'll will swear it wasn't you when these guys prove their worth.

Banda worked with Diaz at Texas and last year, at Mississippi State. He was a three-year defensive graduate assistant for the Longhorns (2012-14) and was a defensive quality control assistant for the Bulldogs last year, working wtih defensive backs.

Banda has a unique backstory. Seven years after graduating high school in 2000 — after making his living as a bartender — he walked on at fledgling Incarnate Word as a safety in 2007. He was reportedly one of the oldest players in college football. A knee injury ended his college career in 2010 — when he was 29. He was known by some teammates as “Grandpa.”

He began as a student coach after that. This is his first collegiate coaching position, which gives him something in common with new UM cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph, who accepted a position Monday.

Banda’s group of returning safeties includes seniors-to-be Rayshawn Jenkins and Jamal Carter, sophomore Jaquan Johnson and redshirt freshman Robert Knowles. Three-star recruit Cedrick Wright is UM’s safety commit.

Everyone is acting like safeties coach is like a coordinator position. The guy will teach them to line up properly, will make sure they are in the right position, and run them through drills. Diaz will still probably control all placement and development of the secondary.

It's okay to be upset with Diaz hire but this hire should not rustle any feathers, it'll probably be even better than last year becuase we have two coaches for both sets of secondary

Banda has worked for Charlie Strong (Texas) and Manny Diaz (Miss St).

His players rave about him.

The guy must be a total loser.

I can just see you frantically typing at the keyboard these past few days. Creating a symphony of ****, like a modern message board Mozart. You've put a lot of miles on that keyboard. When that thing dies (hopefully soon), Amazon basics has some solid keyboards for the sky-is-falling, frantic message board hijackers such as yourself. Or you could put that cash to better use and buy some bleach to use for eyedrops.
 
Would have rather just had rumph coach both spots and used the slot for a gray beard LB coach.

Time will tell, but this guy obviously understands what Diaz wants out of his safeties which is a lot by the way. We have some gray beards on staff. And we have them where it really matters, coaching the kids in the trenches. You also need a bunch of young guys who you can work like small farm animals. They should be able to relate to kids and recruit.

Let's get a world class strength and conditioning guy and assistants and we're in business.
 
Banda is a good hire because he understands what Diaz wants done at safety. Alot of pressure on that position in this defense

A bit of a bizarre hire....definitely out of left field. Maybe Richt told Diaz he had one hire on the D staff and that's the guy he went to bat for, idk. Hopefully it works out though. The back story is bizarre as ****.

Devils advocate, he has been coaching the secondary for a while and exclusively with Miss State, albeit without a big title.

Could've done better. At least Rumph and Banda are only focusing on one unit a piece

Their secondary also led the nation in fewest 20+ passing plays for whatever that's worth

Based on everything i have read/seen, their safeties played deep for that reason.....so i think it had more to deal with scheme than anything.

The weakness of his D is the fact they are extremely aggressive and can get burned at times if guys are out of place....but i think that's why the safeties play deep to ensure there's a last line of defense to prevent bad plays from being backbreaking.
