Rumor Each Day Past Today (Mon, 28 Nov)..It Gets Weirder and Weirder With Gattis

I was speaking more to the actual offensive philosophy. He is a horrendous play caller with seemingly no feel for the game. I would not confuse that with the actual scheme though because Harbaugh is showing it can still work. People can refer to it as plodding and neanderthal but I saw plenty of explosive plays by Michigan running this type of offense.
Not just "play caller" but "play designer". Regardless of the "offensive philosophy" you can design plays to be effective. The Ol Ball Coach said "if my WR's aren't getting open it is MY JOB to scheme plays that get them open". Pre snap motion, shifts, whatever it takes. Gattis doesn't have virtually any creativity in his limited "****nal" of personal offensive knowledge. He has plays that he has "grabbed" from past stops. Period.

You don't want to fire and humiliate the guy right now. Horrible PR. Who in their right mind would come and replace him? Help him land on his feet and move on.
What humiliation? Guys at this level understand the nature of the business. Coaches get hired and fired every day. It comes with the territory when you get paid more than 99% of people in this country.

not for nothing but Harbaugh showing this type of offense can still work with the right personnel. Play calling though is a whole other issue. You can still be creative and less predictable in your calls.
Michigan's offense has been dog sh*t all year. They hit 4 explosive plays against OSU, and that was the difference. Their offensive performance before those explosive plays was pathetic. Pior to OSU game, their passing explosiveness was ranked in the 80s, and almost lost to Illinois and Maryland. What other cfb team plays that trash and has consistent success? You like the triple option, and Iowa too?

Yeah if by Tuesday he is still here I’d be getting worried we start to hear that Mario believes in Josh and the roster will be turned over to maximize it
After looking at Gattis' coaching record it seems that when he goes into a program in the doldrums and the recruiting picks up he does VERY well. He certainly needs a receiving crew and an O-line that can block and open holes. Let us pray for receivers as it looks good for an incoming O-line.

The one thing I've picked up on Mario is that he is a highly indecisive guy:

1. Took forever to sign on to become the coach to the point the program was dragged by the media
2. Took forever to hire assistants - we may have lost some recruits due to this
3. On games took time outs on 4th down to just end up punting the ball
4. Is taking his time to fire or reaffirm his commitment to his staff

Sure its important to logically think through your decisions but you also need to do it on a time-table that doesn't detract from the overall health of the program.

Yep. Took Harbaugh almost 10 years to build a roster to that would make Bo Schembechler proud.

And OSU gonna get their issues fixed REAL QUICK, or you'll be looking at Coach Fickell after another blowout loss or 2.

Michigan offense is exactly as it was last year. They just have the personnel to run what Gattis wants (and again, it bears repeating, it takes years and multiple recruiting classes to build to that level).

Each day Gattis is still here..

24th ranked total offense is dog **** to you? I'd take that and their playoff bid anytime. Some of you are just miserable ***s.

Agree. There are all sorts of ways and reasons for Mario to rationalize keeping him. Even more so if Gattis himself wants to stay on.
True. The injury situation alone was so bad that an argument can be made by all the offensive coaches. Just depends on how Mario and Highsmith feel about Gattis' ability to turn this around, what needs to be added or whether Mario can admit when he's wrong.

From a money standpoint if this dude returns you can say goodbye to season ticket sales I certainly won’t waste my time watching this team if he comes back

If I'm an OC candidate this is the absolute last program I would join in the FBS. A big public stink scapegoating this guy is only going to make that situation worse.
I don't agree with your underlying premise anyways, but on top of that, there is a far, far greater risk to what message you send to the team and the offense in particular because you don't want to hurt a single individual's feelings.

*just imagining a scenario*

So what would happen if Gattis strikes out on all of his interviews and doesn't land a gig anywhere? Does Mario fire him outright or allows some other scenario where he (Gattis) is able to save face?

There's always Barber College.

Disagree. They can show off how much of an improvement they made to Miami. The worse we are the better for someone who wants to be a HC

What they're paying Gattis and what kind of severance he might be owed could bring Dan into the conversation. Other than MC asking Alonzo his opinion. I don't see Alonzo as a major player in any decision.
