Duke QB Darian Mensah commits to Miami

You definitely think he slides out to LT? Personally, I thought he was our best guard on the team. He really should have been the full-time starter at LG, but I understand why they needed to get both in the rotation. I'm so glad he stuck it out, though. He'll certainly be one of the better Lineman in the country next year
Agree. I think Samson is the LG. He's better in a phone booth and doesn't know how to use his length and leverage to recover in space. I think McCoy is better working with space and struggles in a phone booth sometimes letting guys get their hands on him. He will transition better to LT where guys are setting up pass rush moves and you can win with length vs interior where DTs are attacking your chest plate on the snap.

I like Meriweather at RT more than I do RG. I know Cantwell is the heir apparent at RT but I think we've got to get looks both ways with Cantwell at RT/RG and Meriweather at both as well. Add Buchanan to the RG conversation and toy with SJ at Center and Rodriguez at RG. See which combo works best and wins out so there are options.

Time will tell but Miami got the top QB in the portal again. I feel like Mensah in 2026 will be closer to Cam Ward 2024 year in which our offense was basically unstoppable. Our offense in 2026 due to the experience and talent, depth should be maybe one of if not the best in school history. We just have to shore up the OL at this point and under Mirabal/Mario, I am confident in that happening.

Over the years, I've always tried to avoid paying too much attention to recruiting rankings.
But earlier in the week, before Mensah and Barkate committed, 247 had our portal class ranked 16th if I remember correctly... now we're 4th.

That's a big noticeable jump. We added 12 solid players.

On the arm strength stuff (which I think looks just OK at times on film), and there are people much better equipped to speak on this than me, he holds the ball relatively high and tight which is kind of opposite to the way qbs generate velocity these days. Cam was a great example of having that loose, whippy arm

with a few mechanical adjustments, he can probably improve his ability to generate velocity by a decent amount. Hopefully that's part of why he started working out with Cam and his coach

Pancake will hold it down. Let’s not forget he is a former 5star OT. Samson is extremely smart, he has already graduated, super athletic, and has great play strength. At 6-6 330 and feet like a dancing bear. Mirabal will turn him into a top 10 draft pick at LT.

That is some real good film. I'd be curious to hear from guys who know OL play if they think he can be a LT at this level.
