I believe they will slot Cantwell in at one of the tackles day one. The question is the other tackle, who emerges or has to be moved. I think if we start Meriweather and Cantwell game 1 our play up front will be inconsistent but it’s not exactly murderers row to open so they will have time to get their feet under them

IIRC, Meriweather had high-level suitors this portal cycle, despite being a fairly intermittent starter at Texas. I'm pretty sure Texas was about to host him before he ended up committing to us.

I keep saying I would be surprised if meriweather doesn’t start. They went hard after seaton and he was plan b, his build is what they like in tackles too

The projected groups are:

-Meriweather-Samson-ryan-mccoy-cantwell.
You can flip the guards here too

-samson-ryan-buchanan-meriweather

-Samson-mccoy-ryan-meriweather-cantwell

Also can see buchanan cross training at center or maybe starting at rg in that last group

Honestly, playing RT as a True Freshmen is real hard. Not sure Cantwell is as technically advanced as Cici was as a True Freshman. Maybe Samson or McCoy kick out to tackle this year, and move cantwell to OG his freshmen year.

There was alot of growing pains in Francis first year we helped him alot, and his sophomore year wasn’t elite but he grew. This year he was the best in the country

Kinda have to let the youngins like that grow, maybe his floor is lower because francis is much more agile and played at img vs top competition but i think he will be solid at pass pro and really good at run blocking

I think he will get up to speed by mid year but I wouldn't be shocked if Cantwell starts the year as the back up at RT playing big garbage snaps in the first 5 or so games

Yea the IMG experience is huge. Cici had that 5 star competition day in and day out. Cantwells level was surely nowhere near IMG. He has the raw power to play now…but playing on the edge is more technique than say, playing Guard would be in year one.

Wasn't for long...but hasn't Cantwell already practiced against Mesidor, Bain, and Lightfoot.

There was ups and downs, he finished the year strong tho. And maybe he has but you think a early enrollee got real reps vs our starters? Lol..And it still would be different from francis at img, he played bain his senior year in high school and other top players

I think he’s gonna be great, id start him and let him grow as the season goes. Im just saying it would be normal for him to having growing pains because francis did too

solid games 1-6 and good games 7-12 as a TF
Good as a Soph
Elite as a Jr
