I was always taught, and coach it as well: it needs to all look the same.

This is not only amateurish QB play from a supposed tier 1 player, but absolute coaching malpractice from the QB coach and OC. Really? Some X box football savant shows this to Langdon, and now it's viral? That's what the Oregon coaching staff was looking to have happen? Un...freakin'... real.

It either means the kid is uncoachable, or the coaches are unemployable. Or maybe both?

I remember when Dante Moore was coming out of HS, and both @Memnon and I thought the kid had premium skills and was one of our top picks in that class. Won't speak for him, but boy I was wrong.

I don't disagree with a single word you wrote. I remember as a lard *** on the OL to make sure my feet were always set the same, fingertips barely touching the dirt so that I didn't giveaway run v pass. On defense, I ALWAYS looked for the tipoffs. Once I had it, my skill level didn't matter nearly as much. I'm talking middle school level here too.

I find your comments about uncoachable v coaches are unemployable to be interesting. I personally think it's both. Lanning blows. Dante committed to the Ducks, decommitted, spent a year at UCLA, then portaled up to Oregon. I don't see a ton of progress in his development.

Narrowly escaped Penn State and Iowa last year, Boise had them beat in 2024 and again this year, they also narrowly escaped Wisconsin in 2024.

Luck ran out and hopefully they're losing the games they got away with in prior years.

I've been saying Oregon and A&M take huge steps back strictly due to the coordinators they lost and who they replaced them with. Haven't seen it yet with A&M but I still think it's coming.

I’m of the belief that the major difference keeping A&M steady compared to Oregon is Tommy Moffit, 3x national champion as a S&C coach (Tennessee, Miami, and LSU). A&M’s loss of Colin Klein will show up in pivotal moments as they move forward though, and their schedule this year is much more challenging than it was last year.

When Mario took over in 2018, he sidelined this dude and brought in Aaron Feld for UGA:

One of the most overlooked elements in the success of Oregon’s student-athletes is Jim Radcliffe, now in his 30th year as the school’s head strength and conditioning coach and 32nd overall. He not only plays a significant role in the Ducks’ football program as the designer of the year-round conditioning calendar but also has been quick to aid the athletic development of athletes in the sports of baseball as well as men’s and women’s track & field.

While he has long been one of the integral components to the program’s success – as often credited by both past and present Oregon student-athletes – his work and innovation are now recognized as one of the overwhelming contributions to the fast pace the football team has employed the past seven years.

One of radcliffe’s S&C buddies would always hate, on Twitter, on Feld’s work at Miami. I believe the hate is because of Mario’s sidelining. The new Oregon football-only S&C guy, Wilson Love, still answers to Radcliffe and doesn’t have the free rein Mario empowered Feld & co to have. A lot of Oregon’s back offices infrastructure was built out by Mario.

Wilson Love additionally doesn’t have the know-how or experience to really challenge Radcliffe anyways. He was an alum, two star DT who never saw the field, grad assistant aiding ‘Bama defensive linemen in 2014. Switched over to S&C the following year, and after two years as an “assistant,” S&C guy, Lane took him to FAU with him & made him the head S&C coach. Not even sure he has certifications; as i don’t see em listed on his bio.

When UF S&C Nick Savage became available after Dan Mullen was fired; and important to note Lane didn’t get that UF job he wanted then, after UFs first choice Chip Kelly chose UCLA, UF didn’t even consider Lane, instead, in favor of his literal past subordinate, former Alabama WR coach, Billy Napier who brought in his own S&C guy; Lane told Love to find another job lol and brought Savage to Ole Miss. Love and Lanning briefly overlapped at Alabama. Savage is now at LSU.

I think you got it mixed up with Jaden Rashada. I liked him a lot coming out of HS & he was in the same class as Dante Moore & the debate on the board was Moore vs Rashada.

I was absolutely wrong on Rashada, but I never liked Dante Moore & still don't.

I've argued against even recruiting QB's from Michigan because the state went 24 years without producing a functional starter. Ask @cway313 he'll tell you, he & I went back & forth on the topic many times.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Arch SUCKS.... I just don't see a first round QB in him.

Moore is better than Manning but both are overrated.

Manning simply can’t read a defense (even though people love to talk about how smart he is lol) and looks worse when given time in the pocket. there isn’t a QB doing less with more from the pocket in the country than Manning.

We’ll see how quickly the media turns on his supporting cast, who i predict will suddenly look much better without him next year.

One other often overlooked aspect of Oregon is their OL. They've been bad in their 2 games. Come to find out that their OLC was a GA hired by Mario back in 2018-19. The guy has been oregon's OLC for a few years and prior to that, he had 1(?) year experience as OLC.

I came across an old manny Diaz article when he was in his late 20s/early 30s and he said he was able to get hired because coaches loathe doing large searches for staff replacements; which he credits for his hiring from the fsu recruiting department to the football ops back in the day lol.

All that is to say, Lanning is lazy with his staffing. Mike Norvell might be his next OC hire lmao.

I think lanning also wants to give guys their first opportunity as he remembers trying to break into the coaching ranks & climbing the ladder. . . He’s had it on easy mode up until now

Yeah i was surprised (still am) at how little impact those dudes made. What’s worse is that we are somehow overstating how close to zero impact Breland has made; Oregon’s depth got hit hard in the offseason.

IDL transferred out to Houston, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Cal-Berkeley, Alabama. One edge went to WVU and the other went to Ole Miss. Virtually all of those dudes are all playing this year too. Blake Purchase (Ole Miss), Tionne Grey (ND), Terrance Green (Bama), Jericho Johnson (Cal), and Ashton Porter (Houston) in particular. So Breland (and to a much lesser extent Rushing) would’ve been buried underground depth chart wise.

Spoiler: Team building

Goes back to Mario always says about not necessarily stacking talent yeet having individualized outlooks for each guy based on their own abilities and attributes; so the human being can step up when ready post-development. Gotta maintain a strong culture for that to occur; and gotta keep playing a lot of dudes every game like we do.

I don’t believe it’s a recipe for success to bring in 30 transfers (Oregon brought in 15) to replace the 30+1, (true freshman EE transferred to UGA after Raiola + his little true freshman brother signed) outgoing, however, you better have a lot of confidence in your true freshmen and true sophomore classes if that’s happening. Seems like Oregon was caught off-guard.

Another Oregon tears fun fact: Thru two weeks, three of their DB transfers have 5 interceptions: Jahlil Florence (1) @ Mizzou, Kingston Lopa (4) @ Cal; and three passes defended/deflections: Simone Laulea (Mizzou) w/ all 3.

As a total defensive unit, Oregon has two interceptions and 12 passes defended/deflected. Both interceptions were from front 7 players. Half of the 12 passes defended have come from front 7 players.
