Agreed w/ bolded.

What’s tricky is knowing if Lanning actually is learning, and whether or not he takes a holistic viewpoint. So much youthful success at the top level of CFB could build bad habits of collaboration.

Lanning inherited a top 9 CFB job that had a lot of recent success. Mario started w/ arguably a bottom ten job; although a great location, there was zero infrastructure, forthcoming NCAA sanctions, and were coming off a winless season w/ a brawl. Besides that, Mario wasn’t afraid to go outside of his network, and when he did, still conducted very thorough interviews at a young age.

Don’t believe Lanning has to do that to succeed; I just question his overall approach, more than his network, which goes beyond hiring.
