It makes no sense to go all in on a HS QB. It's like having 5 of the 6 numbers correct on a lottery ticket when you go to the portal.

Can we wait until the season is over before we start sucking our own cox? I was in Berkeley last year and saw Mendoza. Didn’t think he stunk, but wasn’t impressed. Decent/average college QB was what I thought.

Referring to those with a different opinion as “Not real ball knowers” is a bit over the top at this juncture.

I think Mateer wins it. He’s their Cam Ward and there are no two-way players stealing the spotlight. Midway through last season it was obvious to me that Mateer was going to be one of the best QBs in cfb this season.

If he still has the stats after playing Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, USCe, Missouri he deserves it
 
Let’s see what Mateer and Mendoza look like after they play the tough defenses on their schedule. Oklahoma has a poor oline and we all saw how Indiana blocked against ND last year in the playoffs.

Beck has already played by far and away the 2 toughest defenses he’ll face all year.
 
I would always sign the best high school quarterback I felt fit the offense.

And I would look in the portal for the same.

I know the Canes hit the jackpot twice with Cam Ward and Carson Beck. Give Miami credit where credit is due and signing both, but both quarterbacks changed their mind after declaring for the NFL draft.

There’s no guarantee there will be an elite quarterback in the portal every year.

And when trying to recruit elite wide receivers from both high school and the portal one consideration they will always have is “who is the quarterback?”.

Is Miami’s answer always going to be “don’t worry we’ll sign someone”?
 
I would throw a little NIL money at top QBs coming out of Hawaii. Yeah I know every team wants a Texas HS QB, but Hawaii QBs (especially Polynesian QBs) are highly underrated.
