Good hire but doesn't scare me. Richt type hire to stabilize the program. Keeping Briles is interesting. With his track record of getting young talented coaches I am shocked he kept Briles.

Listening to ACC network right now. They are saying Bob Stoops has said he is not interested in the FSU job. They speculate Mark Stoops might be along with others. They think FSU will swing for the fences in this hire. So much uncertainty in the administration that it could certainly affect who is willing to take the job.

Kirk Herbstreit may have added an extra 25% premium to the cost of any big time coach choosing FSU. Anyone waiting for the perfect coaching spot or slight preference to stay at their current school is going to avoid the mess that is FSU.

FSU could have saved a ton of money by buying out Butch Davis. I guess Butch’s phone never rang? That’s so weird.

Heard he dropped his phone in the toilet just before the call from FSU was supposed to come in. Horrible timing, if true.

Short answer, yes - a bit. Oklahoma is a better program than FSU, so I'm not sure he'll find the level of success there that he had in the past.

But from 2000-2016, the guy only won less than 10 games 3 times... Can't discount success like that. He could make FSU a very consistently good team.

Sounds like...Richt.

Bob stoops who. We’ll beat him too. Jimbo, Willie, Bobby boy it doesn’t really matter to me. We’re still beating them down. Bring it on.

If you ask OK fans they would tell you they were stuck in limbo under Stoops. Now, that’s a limbo FSU would gladly take at the moment but you’re stripping away uncontested top recruiting classes from Stoops, as well as a competent athletic department and non-toxic culture in the locker room.

Would be a mighty huge hole for him to climb out of

Ehhh... Sort of. Richt closed 9-3 and had gone 8-5 two years prior. He also had 8-5 and 6-7 seasons in 2009 and 2010.

Stoops closed his last two years at 11-2 in each, ending with a bowl upset of the Alabama dynasty. He only had one sub-10 win season in the entirety of the 2010s. While he couldn't get a national championship in his later years, he hadn't fallen off to the level that Richt had.

If they hire Bob Stoops, I will not be thrilled.

he also played in an easier conference than richt did with texas being down

Richt had a 10 win season in his final year if you include his bowl game and I see you included Stoops' bowl games too.

During their coaching careers how many National Titles came through their conferences? Big 12 and SEC are a tad lopsided there.

I didn't include UGA's bowl game because Richt was fired before it. That's not to say they wouldn't have won it anyways, though. I do agree that Stoops had the easier path. But the ACC is an easy path right now too, aside from Clemson.

aside from clemson is the biggest hurdle lol. theyre alabama right now which is what richt dealt with in the SEC. stoops didnt have to deal with a clemson or alabama in the Big 12. they were the big dog esp since UT wasnt special outside of a few seasons there and then went on a downward trend towards the end of his career. in the end, stoops left due to health and current day recruiting. he took the XFL gig for a reason over a UF offer he had (bigger program than FSU in every way imaginable due to the resources they have and conference).
