Does anyone believe this OL is elite?

The pass blocking vs run blocking ratings are skewed by the tight splits.

They are huge and with tight splits, there's very little space inside to get to the QB. The best chance is on the edge where the 2 best OL are in Cici and Bell. But the run game suffers miserably for it.

With normal splits, you'd see who's great at pass pro and who's more average.

You can still run with tight splits IF you aren't packed in with all 11 within the camera. The field is 53 yards wide, and I doubt we have ever had 4 guys out WIDE like Air Raid OGs used to run. Do that and you remove 5-6 from most run plays that need to get 1-2 years. I'd take our 5OL + QB + RB vs their 6 in the box on most downs, assuming the 4 WRs are out wide and preferably blocking or running 4 verts.

They have elite talent and size.

Unfortunately below average coaching and scheme is what’s hurting them
bingo.

theyre so poorly coached. Mirabutts should be on the chopping block if we were a real program. get a real OLC in there. allow the OC to actually scheme up a run game that works within the offense and his scheme.

That's just it, right? When you have everyone packed in tight, you put all the defenders within a few yards of the OL. That makes their job just a bit harder, no?

The same tight splits people hate are the same ones that make us good in pass pro

If we change the tight splits the OL regresses in pass pro

These guys aren’t somehow better at pass than run it’s how the offense is set up it’s built in to protect them
Then pass more? We are 73/136 FBS teams in Pass to Run plays running 53% of the time. FFS its like we hired the 95 Nebraska OL and then said do pass pro. If they want to be run oriented why isn't it set up to be so. If it is set up to be pass oriented then why aren't they passing more.

Feels like Mauigoa's talent is being wasted while we bang it up Brokemeyer's rear end repeatedly.

I submit the following re-org for your review:

LT Bell -- LG Mauigoa -- C Rodriguez -- RG Cooper -- RT Okunlola/McCoy

Fletcher - average ypc - 4.9 FR - 5.4 SO - 5.1 JR. That's pretty consistent

Brown - 4.8 in FBS - 3.8 in P4. Disappointing, but the drop off shouldn't be surprising

Lyle - vs P4 outside of WF - 2.9 FR. 3.3 SO. Disappointing, but shouldn't be surprising

It's not the push to get 3-5 yds that's the problem. It's when holes open on runs that could be big plays, our RB's don't have the cuts/burst/speed/vision to make it happen.

Our longest run vs a P4 team is 23 yds. We only have 2 20+ yd runs. That's why our YPC is so low.

BUT - Syracuse this week is 100th vs the run + 116th in ypc. This will be a feel good mirage game.

Irrelevant. None of that matters when it comes to the mighty Miami Hurricanes.
Especially with Fletcher out. I’d be surprised if we avg more than 4.5 a carry.
I hear you - it's been bad.

But I predict all our RB's/OL will look good vs Syracuse and we'll finally hit 1 or 2 big runs.

With Fletcher hurt - I'd like to see Pringle get some meaningful (not just garbage time) runs.

Here's the longest run Syracuse has given up to a RB in each game this year

Our OL has been terrible with run blocking and above average with pass blocking. They aren’t an elite unit at all.

The pass blocking is way above-average. I can easily argue it's the best in the country, but since I don't watch every game from every team, there's no way in **** there are 5 better pass-blocking units in the country. Sacks allowed is NOT the end-all stat to represent this, but it's not bad when you have an immobile QB, and we're currently 6th in the country in sacks allowed. Army and Navy are 2 of the 5 teams ahead of us. I saw something headed into the game last week that Beck was being pressured at the lowest rate of all FBS passers...something like 19%, which is unheard of.

Run blocking stinks, though. 100+ in yards before contact. Scheme has a lot to do with it, but just watch the games. The LOS was 2-3 yards downfield last year, this year, not so much.

Run blocking, poor. Pass pro, elite.

The thing with our oline, they will be protected and never give up sacks because we will max protect even if its 3rd and long.. We will send a one man route if we have to lol.. I have seen us max protect on 3 man rush before, both edge chipping :ibis-roflmao-sm3:

OPEN A ******* HOLE!!!

I believe the offensive line is above average to good in pass protection, and below average to average and run blocking, which is probably due to the run plays that I’ll be called

They're not below avg in run blocking. It's the retarded scheme and goon ball mentality. Also, Lyle couldn't find a hole in a strip club. Marty has has been struggling too.
If the scheme looked more like it did vs Cuse with a mix of Fletcher and Pringle, we'd be elite.
