It has VOIP, video conference, and persistent chat. Probably some other features I've never explored.

I use it with a group of friends who have long moved from the 305 to stay in touch, post videos and photos, and even run our secret Santa (we mail the gifts in advance like ******* adults). Also good for online computer games.

Never really considered it for a message board, though.

I have no clue what it is. Perhaps a millennial can give me, @423Hurricane and @Cajuncane a crash course?
Discord is primarily used by gamers, it’s a more integrated and free (both in price and in freedoms) variant of your standard VOIP like Skype or FBmessenger or even something like Microsoft Teams. It gained popularity by having dedicated connections to individual servers with rolling IPs so that DDOSing or spamming something like a ventrillo, Mumble or TeamSpeak server could not occur as easily. It was designed for gamers and by gamers who were sick of VOIPs being so easy to infiltrate and disrupt for competitive play as those give almost everyone your exact IP, type of router and even your port number. Back when I was still playing WoW and Dota2 at a high level, we used to run into DDOS attacks on our TeamSpeak servers almost nightly so eventually we swapped to Discord and I have not used anything since. It allows for a lot of social interaction, easy conversations, the ability to make both text, voice and video/stream channels, ability to add people and even send messages to people you don’t have added if you need to relay something and in my opinion, it’s one of the most diverse, comprehensive yet easy to pick up VOIPs because it is designed like Skype but it doesn’t suck. (At least until Microsoft officially acquires it and turns it into a plug-in for Skype xD)

You can connect to a group chat and text/talk to them. You can use it on a laptop, smartphone, laptop, pc, etc. You can also share pictures, video, music for everyone to see.

I typically use it for online dnd sessions or for gaming. Also use a headset.

If you've used Skype, you can use Discord.

Personally, I like the idea of voice over on gameday. I can cuss about the defense or the offense alongside my fellow Canes fans in real time.

it’s basically an app where you can join specific severs (kinda like chat rooms) and you can make many different subcategories for every server ( like how we have different forums) and people can discuss things basically in real time there)

Discord is great for game day discussions, I use it for gaming. It has a ton of features and a ton of crazy bots you can add to do just about anything you can imagine, from telling you the time, to telling you in real time when a recruit commits.

you can also set a bot to say 15-0 whenever you please 😂

it’s a cool app, here’s a few pics of what it looks like as an example

So the slurpers can all reside in one place out of public view? I vote yes😂

What can you do on a discord you can’t already do here?

Basically "live" chat? I think? I have it, I am a member of a stock trading group and they have several different rooms where people talk about stocks. Not sure how it'd translate to this site, I'll have to think more about it but essentially it's kind of like a message board but instead of us all posting on this board, we all talk together in one big room. Or several rooms. It'd be like a group chat with everyone here.

Do I have that right?

"Discord has had problems with hostile behavior and abuse within chats, with some communities of chat servers being "raided" (the taking over of a server by a large number of users) by other communities. This includes flooding with controversial topics related to race, religion, politics, and pornography.[69] Discord has stated that it has plans to implement changes that would "rid the platform of the issue"."

So Discord is the WEZ?

Its just another iteration of TeamSpeak, Ventrillo, Roger Wilco (yes I'm that old), of VOIP.

I think it would be a great edition to CIS.

And you can install it as an app on a smartphone as well.

****, this post put me in a time machine and took me back to playing Ghost Recon on my Compaq Presario laptop before I got a Sony Vaio.

Well, we have no problems with trolls so it shouldn't be an issue.

For me it was Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear; trying to play on a 28.8k modem. Roger Wilco as voice communication sounded like a taxicab radio.
