DJ Ivey impressing

Kevin Steele was a failure on top of the culture issues. Maybe he has some level of success with a better culture but I doubt he leads this defensive team to the same results as heatherman. Thus, it is about a mix of culture, talent, and X/o coaching. Then you have the things that have to be right the other 6 days of the week plus offseason.
The Kevin Steele/Charlie Strong combo being a disaster was shocking. I did not expect that outcome. Would love to hear what was going on day-to-day with those guys and the defensive unit, because Steele and Strong were known commodities prior to walking into Hecht.

Here’s my take on it:

1) DJ Ivey had many terrible moments. He lost confidence and it caused him to underachieve here.

2) Fans mostly ignored his good moments because the narrative had already been established that he sucked.

3) A lot of people were dead wrong about his talent. When I said Ivey had NFL ability, I got the angriest and most insulting responses since I’ve been doing this. People said he had bad feet, bad hips, too slow, G5 ability, etc. Those takes were wrong.

And I’ll admit I’m extra biased on this one because Ivey is a really good young man who overcame a ton. Some of the stuff he dealt with from grown men in our fanbase was disgusting. I’m glad he shut all those people up.

yeah and when the NFL saw the tape they drafted him since we all know the NFKL drafts you when you are the one player on the team causing 'wtf is DJ doing'

again you guys are brilliant at explaining away all the reasons you were really right

maybe, just maybe you were wrong. it's ok. if you need to seek a comfort animal or fidget spinner when you say it to help get thru it
Whatever man, the draft busts list is really ******* long. Just because he got drafted and is playing well in the nfl doesn't mean he wasn't cheeks here. Anything else is revisionist sorry.

And both have failed to reach any level of success since. Thus, I have to believe both were looking for easy money.

He's not "playing well" though.

He's barely playing at all.

He literally came in on the last play of the game for Hail Mary coverage.

But on this board, being a backup Special teamer 7th rounder is akin to being a 1st ballot HOF'er.

Good for him for finding a place in the league, but acting as if he's a full time starter all-pro is as disingenuous as it gets.

I'm old enough to remember when the Clemson kicker or holder hawked him down. You can't unsee that ****.

With that said, I'm glad he's getting paid!

Didn’t he have an ACL surgery last year around this time?

That wasn't great! I hated him for that play. Wasn't that a fake and he was just standing there? Was that his freshman year?

1) It's ok to just say he wasn't good here

2) Fans were mad at the team. Hard to praise a late INT when you lose by 3 TDs to Duke

3) I still think some of those things limit how good he could have been. Talent was always there.

Last part is understandable but it doesn't make him a great football player. Our fanbase is the worst. He seems like a great person. Nothing wrong with his career IMO. Not everyone can be HOF'ers.

Yeah it's pretty clear nobody has said this

That's the main point here. DJ made some mistakes and he also made some good plays. Our idiotic fanbase treated him like a POS. Every single completion he gave up, was like he murdered someone's dog. It was absurd. Many of us just felt bad for the young man cause it wasn't deserved. His play was far better than the vitriol directed at him.

I mean he has basically proven you wrong. it's ok to admit it. CIS scouting department causes group think moments and too many get swept into it. The NFL doesn't give a crap about what the CIS scouting department says, they look at the tape
You ever heard of...
"TWO THINGS COULD BE RIGHT AT THE SAME TIME"

ever in your life before just ****ting on every poster?

It was documented that Ivey had confidence issues here at UM, coupled with bad coaching, which equates to bad play.

But, we all knew he was better than what he was when he played here.

BOTH THINGS CAN BE RIGHT!!!

Chill out, my guy

I don't disagree that he struggled at times, sure.

I will not budge however in ever accepting the way he was treated by some of these 'fans' was deserved. Absolutely not. They were wrong and it's healthy to admit it.

Hired them about 10 years too late in my opinion
