Devonta Smith

I think he comes out of his shell this weekend in Miami. Too nice of a campus and too many good vibes in Miami/Coral Gables/ Miami Beach to not have fun. I think our staff and players make him feel at home.

But but but Smith told people in his neighborhood that he was all Bama.

:monkey-serious:

That boy was laying in the hotel all weekend at bama lol. Sh*t funny. On the real Devonta smith is a smart talented kid. Jimmy smith says he's pretty much a 4.0 student.

A poster on 247 is saying smith recently started following all the wr targets except for pouncey and is following bandy and a few other people.

Brooklyndee said yesterday pouncey wasnt a take until they find out what smith will do and he followed thomas and harley but not pouncey.
brock get on this and do some digging.

No, he follows them but they aren't recent follows. He did retweet a stan dobard and liked a Trajan bandy visited from yesterday. Its on his front page on twitter lol

Bama 247 nuggets just posted... interesting

-- A pair of newly crowned five-star prospects in defensive end LaBryan Ray and receiver Henry Ruggs III are two names sources continue to feel “really good” about eventually signing with Alabama. Both in-state prospects were on campus last weekend for their official visits, which were said to have gone great in every sense of the word. Both Ray and Ruggs are trending to the Crimson Tide on the 247Sports Crystal Ball with both expected to announce final decisions on National Signing Day as is stands. Ray, the No. 1 strong-side defensive end, is set to take his final official visit to Florida this upcoming weekend, while Ruggs, the No. 11 receiver in the country, has no visit set in stone after seeing both Tuscaloosa and Tallahassee the past two weekends.

-- Alabama continues to be the leader for Devonta Smith despite the full-court press from LSU, sources tell BamaOnLine coming off of Smith’s official visit to Tuscaloosa. Sources near the Tigers program indicate at this point it seems like Coach O and staff are on the outside looking in, with Miami being the dark horse. The Canes have continued to push the depth chart at Alabama to Smith along with the incoming class in the hopes of swaying Smith to South Beach. Florida State is also taking a shot at the Amite (La.) native, getting him on campus last week for an official. The nation’s No. 9 receiver, Smith is expected to use his final official visit to Miami this weekend before announcing a National Signing Day decision.

Noteworthy that they don't feel as good as about smith as the do about ruggs and labranon ray landing in the class. Yeah bama probably has a good chance but Miami definitely is in it more so other than anyother school not named bama

Pretty funny that Ruggs is now a 5 star because Bama is after him so hard. He was barely a top 200 player at the start of the year.

Bama offer makes you a five star lol

Too be fair, bama offered him 2 years ago. Ruggs dominated the army all-star game and definitely looked better than Smith. Alot more explosive and aggressive.

I don't have a problem with Ruggs becoming a 5* because of what he did at the practices/game but Thomas should also get rewarded with what he did at Under Armour...

One of the best light heavyweights in the 80s, changed his name to Dwight Muhammad Qawi (The Camden Buzzsaw). Greats fights with Mathew Saad Muhammad, the two Spinks brother, even another fight with another inmate, James Scott at Rawway. won all of these fights. He started loosing when we moved up to heavyweight. He was only about 5'9" but packed a punch.

Yep. I remember the name change and every one of those fighters. I grew up a big boxing fan. Those were great fighters and great fights. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

I remember going to see the first Duran vs. Leanard fight at the old Jersey City colony theatre. No cable or internet at that time, LOL. Most of the folks on this board were not even born then, LOL. **** I remember seeing all the Puerto Rican vs. Mexican fights. Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Wilfredo Gomez, Pepino Cuevas vs. Duran, Wilfredo Benitez vs. Duran, Duran vs. Hagler, etc, etc. Those were some awsome fights. To go 15 rounds at that time you had to have balls and tons of stamina. Most of the pussies now barely make it 10 rounds. Those guys made it look easy.

****, NDE, you're bringing back memories... I watched those same fights in Passaic , I think the Capitol theatre was the name.. Yeah very few good fighters today, but the welterweight division is loaded. I used to fight for Silk City boxing club in Paterson, ol' Eddie Johnson (MadDog) was my trainer. I had a lot of matches in Camden back in the young days, LOL, **** I fought all over. Boxing is definitely The Sweet Science!!

Nice to bring back those memories.

I knew Lust would get in on this, especially NJ boxing. I saw the 1st and 2nd Leonard Duran fights and I am certain that I saw both but definitely the 2nd "no mas" one at the Miami Beach Convention Center as a kid. I actually saw Leonard fight live there when I was 11 years old in 1977.

RVA, you're a lucky man to have seen him live . How long did you live in Miami? if you mind me asking?

Lust: Yeah, boxing was my favorite sport when I was younger. Now boxing is BS and little competition and pussies fighting each other. I used to box for the Boys and Girls Club in Jersey City from 1969 to 73 when I was caught doing some stupid **** that young kids from the hood used to do back then when you had no brains. Tried boxing at Rahway but tore my shoulder in 73. I had no health insurance and always waked around with a bum shoulder until I was in my mid 40s and finally got it repaired. LOL. Let me tell you a story. First time I went to Miami in the 70s I had a cousin who told me he was going to drive me through the "hood". After a half hour I told the MF, "When we gonna get there". She said we have been driving in the hood for over half an hour. I feel over laughing. My version of the hood is having to walk up 10 flights of stairs cause the elevator was broken in the projects, having to close you nose with all the **** smell and hoes sucking off some dude on the 5th floor. Here even the hood had palm trees and back yards, LOL. Back then you had pit bulls fighting. Now all you get is Pretty Boy Floyd types. Take care.

I feel you, the hood down there is rough, but chit go to J.C., Newark, Plainfield , Paterson...... brother, I seen the same chit in the projects, matter of fact, they stole a puppy straight out from my hand, but I kept walking like nothing ever happened. I'm not getting steamrolled in there by myself, LOL.... the irony is that I just found that puppy like 4 blocks away, so I decided to show my aunt who lived in the projects back in 84. LOL

Anyways..... I still feel Smith will pick us. Just to stay with the program HERE!

Doesn't sound to me like the type of kid that goes very far from home/family

It honestly sounds like he already knows where he wants to go, just doing visits for the heck of it (so his family can do some traveling?)

IMO he'd be more engaged on his visits if he was still on the fence.

I disagree, I see highlights all the time like u all, there are certain players who look good (smith) and there are certain players who look better than the field by far (Thomas), last years elite to me was ar82 when they basically are scoring every play.

Just because he's under 6 feet doesn't make him less of a prospect. Thomas is rated higher and he dominated a field of elite players with one week of practice, that equates to let's go outside and see who is better? He's only going to get faster, quicker, not to mention his ability on the other side of the ball.

I can't figure out why besides his height you like smith more? Maybe hands at this stage but that's a toss up at this point.

Star ratings and crootin services.

Really weird recruitment and atypical of a major SEC country recruit. I don't think he's coming but the fact that he's not talking to anyone certainly helps our chances.

Smith sounds like exactly the type of guy Rick should reel in. He's got a pulse rate of about 40. If he ventures out of the hotel room for more than a bucket of ice we win.

Gonna be like Punxsutawney Devonta. If we see his his shadow anywhere this weekend we win.

100%

he's a smart, quite kid with strong faith. We are a small private school, with smaller classes and have a pastor as our coach.. And Ahmonn seems like the perfect host for a kid like him too.

Does a host really matter if Devonta doesn´t even talk to them?

They should let Donaldson host him. Stick them in a room, slap some paint on the wall, and let them watch it dry.

If he doesn't come to Miami now he will in two years. I guarentee this kid transfers from Bama. 100% guarantee.

The whole "continues to be the leader" line is a dead giveaway. Usually means they don't know squat. =P

None of them know ****. And they keep labeling UM as a dark horse because they can't wrap their undeveloped brains around the idea that a highly recruited guy from the south would choose UM over an sec school.
