2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

Miami has recruited Cooper the hardest and longest of any school. The Texas Mod just told you they came out of desperation with an insane offer.
That will be every year. Next year it could be an Auburn, or a Nebraska, or a Texas Tech, or a Baylor. Some school that is desperate to make a splash so they allocate 40% of their entire NIL budget on one player, consequences to roster management ignored.

How do we respond to that?

By sitting here and saying “Aw shucks well nothing we can do they just wanted him more no biggie”.

they are also telling him they won't take any other rb's and he will basically be handed the job.

Honestly, we are fine at RB. we are recruiting him hard because of the 5 star in So Fla status.
I wish we got the DT's more than anything.

Lol
No, we are recruiting him because he is an elite prospect. There’s a reason Texas, OSU, and UGA are his other finalists. Stop that bull****.

You are clueless to the perception of the program. These kids weren’t alive when we last won anything meaningful. All they’ve seen are 7-5 seasons in an empty rent a stadium followed by a loss in some cheez-its bowl. Their most recent memories are us getting embarrassed by FIU, LaTech, MTSU. It takes time to get rid of that stink.

The hometown kids they looked up to growing up all went to Bama, OSU, etc and balled out and made it to the league. That’s what they see.
Mario has contributed to some of that stink, so he deserves some of the blame. MTSU, GT, the late season collapses, the Pop Tarts Bowl, etc have all happened under him.

I’m tired of the slurpers who give Mario a lifetime pass because of the last decade. That’s ancient history now. Recruits wonder “what have you done for me lately?” Mario clearly hasn’t performed well enough on the field to reverse our negative perception then.

I didnt mean it like the way it came out. I meant RB is not really a position of need for us but he is a 5 star from so fla so we have to go all out for preception purposes. cant lose the battle.

Yea lying or telling half truths is always a big factor in recruiting, gotta do what you gotta do

almost all them dts transferred out from am i think only stewart and one other were left lol

Probably thinking of Shemar Turner who was the year before and LT Overton whos projected as a 1st/2nd rounder now. Lookig back at it now:

Walter Nolan - 1st rounder
Shemar Stewart - 1st Rounder
Gabriel Bronlow-Dindy- transfered to USSe - Lakeland Kid
LT OvertoEn - Reclassed in, bounced to Bama - Projected top 50 pick
Enai White - transfered to PSU after doing nothing for 3 years
Jadon Scarlett - 3 star depth guy stilll there

Take that kind fo class any day of the week even with 2 busts. Worth the money imo if you get them all to stay

"One of us" needs to kidnap a crypto billionaire and force him to upgrade our entire rooster. I hear that is popular these days.

Until they recruit 2 next year.

Its insane kids still fall for this. I hope we get him simply to start changing the perception of getting out of SFla if you are a skill position 5 star. But RB just seems like one position you can spend a bit less on. I dont think any RB should be 5 star unless you are playing elite comp and look like Adrian Peterson.

Me too. And that can certainly be done. I just don't think that we'll get the Jeremiahs of the future.

Even if we won ten consecutive national championships.

There will always be a "reason".
Nick Lanear and Brysen Wright are elite wrs already trending to other schools. Elite Florida wrs just not feeling the U even after fielding the #1 rated O.

Jimbo Fischer use to do that. we will take your brother or your best friend and then cut the kid in spring

Again, hearing this secondhand but was told Texas opening offer for cooper was 800k….time to pay up
huey freeman GIF

That kinda counts as getting out recruited in these times
Not really if loyalty meant anything no amount of money can change how a player feels about a school. I'm pretty sure UM came with a better than great offer. Everyone has said that UM has been on this kid the longest and has recruited him the hardest. D. Street even said UT literally came in the picture 3months ago and he looks to be flipping or changing his mind and going to UT. How is that even possible if the home team has been doing everything they're supposed to do? This doesn't happen in Texas, Gerogia, **** parts of Florida don't seem to have these problems.

Miami....sfla has a problem getting the cream of the crop to stay home and play at UM. They also have problems identifying the kids in sfla who may not be highly ranked, but clearly has talent and should be layups to come to UM because they are too busy chasing/focusing on the 5 star players. This is the curse Mario has to figure out.....you're **** if you do and **** if you don't!!

I'll say it again when these kids jump from school to school as youth the loyalty and pride to not stay home is ingrained in these sfla kids at a young age and doing the best for them is priority 1; much respect, but we can't get mad when those same kids don't pick UM.
