2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

Mario has contributed to some of that stink, so he deserves some of the blame. MTSU, GT, the late season collapses, the Pop Tarts Bowl, etc have all happened under him.

I’m tired of the slurpers who give Mario a lifetime pass because of the last decade. That’s ancient history now. Recruits wonder “what have you done for me lately?” Mario clearly hasn’t performed well enough on the field to reverse our negative perception then.
Yea Mario hasn’t reversed the perception thus far, he’ll win some Elite OOS battles but the Kids down here ain’t convinced yet..hopefully this year is another step closer to for us to be consistently in Playoffs/ACC title games, we have a very good roster.

Making a bunch of bad hires didn’t help the situation and made it seem worse . He was also afforded the finances to keep erasing said mistakes because of the financial backing that no coach here has had.

Yes he took over a spotty situation but the narrative shifted with the L’s. I’m very aware of when things started changing from the inside and what was pushed . Which at the time annoyed me. Everyone started parroting the same thing after year one and it increased into year two.

My point is Mario did take over a less than perfect situation but he’s also poked a lot of holes in his own canoe.

Agree with you on the bad hires in 2022. Made worse by not taking a knee vs. GaTech in 2023.

I'll say this. I can't speak to the "narrative shift", and maybe it happened as far as it relates to the external communication to guys like Ferman and Gaby. I just know what I was told by people at UM before a single game was ever played in 2022 and the L's began to pile up. And what I was told is things were worse than first imagined. At the outset.

Maybe Mario was overconfident that he'd be able to overcome all of those problems. Maybe he thought his bad hires were going to be good hires. He certainly dug his own hole even deeper. Just as Sark dug his own hole deeper with the drinking.

Sark has impressed me with what he's done at Texas. I'm not quite ready to crown him yet, but he's definitely gotten his life back on track. The USC stuff must have been devastating, given how much he succeeded there as an assistant coach.

What if our staff is just getting out recruited?
cary elwes quote GIF

We’re not overpaying for this guy, get over it. Move on and stop throwing temper tantrums you bunch of whiners. Now if he were an OL guy, **** yeah. That’s where the game is won. These divas are a dime a dozen, a 6’8 325 lb OL kid with genes like Jesus are rare and hard to find. Pay those kids. These skilled, and I use the term loosely, are like roaches in SFL, everywhere. There are exceptions, like the one we all like to talk about, but they are extremely rare. It might be another 20 years before another JJ comes along.

Not really if loyalty meant anything no amount of money can change how a player feels about a school. I'm pretty sure UM came with a better than great offer. Everyone has said that UM has been on this kid the longest and has recruited him the hardest. D. Street even said UT literally came in the picture 3months ago and he looks to be flipping or changing his mind and going to UT. How is that even possible if the home team has been doing everything they're supposed to do? This doesn't happen in Texas, Gerogia, **** parts of Florida don't seem to have these problems.

Miami....sfla has a problem getting the cream of the crop to stay home and play at UM. They also have problems identifying the kids in sfla who may not be highly ranked, but clearly has talent and should be layups to come to UM because they are too busy chasing/focusing on the 5 star players. This is the curse Mario has to figure out.....you're **** if you do and **** if you don't!!

I'll say it again when these kids jump from school to school as youth the loyalty and pride to not stay home is ingrained in these sfla kids at a young age and doing the best for them is priority 1; much respect, but we can't get mad when those same kids don't pick UM.
You think kids transferring in high school is a sfla thing only?

And if im not mistaken texas lost out on their 1st two targets at rb from texas…This narrative that only sfla kids leave home or have no loyalty to the home program is just a repeated lie.

First it’s we have “F/U money” & we bout to make ppl mad/posting Memes about how you don’t want to be head to head with Miami at the end by UGA mods

Then it’s we are getting outbid for elite recruits n because we wont pay said “F/U money” to certain guys

Now it’s Skill positions aren’t that important n we don’t really have “F/U money” after all and should save the funds we do have for OL/DL, it’s already posters saying Cooper ain’t really a 5 star talent 😂😂

Y’all 🥷 been all over the place this past week ngl 😂

Are we broke or these Jits just not feeling the U like yall thought they was ? I think the answer is simple…

That will be every year. Next year it could be an Auburn, or a Nebraska, or a Texas Tech, or a Baylor. Some school that is desperate to make a splash so they allocate 40% of their entire NIL budget on one player, consequences to roster management ignored.

How do we respond to that?
By doing that same thing with offensive lineman

Where did i say it was a sfla thing....I could care less what's going on Texas we're talking bout UM and my opinion of what's going with local kids.

Personally myself I think the present stage of college football is in a terrible place. These HS kids need to take a step back and whether it's the federal government or the NCAA something must change quickly. I use to love college football but not anymore. I'd rather watch an NHL game and especially the Panthers. If I was Mario I would take care of the kids on the present roster to insure continuity into next season. As far as Cooper is concerned I believe if he chooses Texas so be it. He has done NOTHING as a college athlete and I wouldn't raise the bar to pay him. We have a nice group of RB's and we want players that respect UM while glamouring to play for us. I'd rather give more $$$ to Breck Kolojay because he's more important than Cooper. The fact that Cooper has been on our campus many times and now is taking a bigger bag from TX tells me all I need to know about him. My new position is I don't want him for the money he's asking. I hope he changes his position but if not good luck kid and adios.

Thank God for common sense…

gaby saying "you gotta figure out how to land him by sunday." seems like they are still working to get him now rather than only playing the long game.
Kinda why I have been holding off. I don’t think it’s a flip him later approach you either do what it takes now or he’s gone gone

Only thing I’m sure of is the sites will be milking it till the end (pause?)

UT just went into Georgia to pull UGAs top defensive target lol. They dropping bags bags. I want Cooper badly but sometimes the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. I do expect Miami will up their NIL too so let’s see

Also calling my shot now, he’d be an elite LB like Devin White shi. I like him better on D, that’s all.
