“It was great to reconnect with him again—we were just chopping it up, talking about football and life,” Lafayette told CaneSport. “Today, he also met my pops, and he told us about his come-up. We talked for almost an hour.”

This past fall, Lafayette racked up 73 tackles, 17.5 sacks, and 18 tackles for loss.
“What they’re telling me is that they would use me as a very dynamic rusher,” Lafayette said. “They feel like my film is second to none, and I can be a big help on their defense for years to come if I were to go there.”

“This visit was big because this is now the second time he’s made an unexpected visit,” Lafayette said. “The first time, he switched up all of his flights to come watch me practice at 5 a.m. And he came again today, which was great. He’s showing a ton of effort to come see me, and it lets me know they’re serious about me—which he’s also told me. My offer to Miami is committable.”

Lafayette is set to return the favor and head down to Coral Gables for his official visit to Miami on May 31.

DE DeAnthony Lafayette (Orlando) is a name with a lot of helium. While he's an undersized (6'1, 230) three star, he has a ton of recruiting attention. Jason Taylor loves him as a natural pass rusher. Oklahoma is the favorite going into the weekend.

I don’t care what his height is - kid can ball. Insane burst and bend. Reminds me of Jerome McDougle. Roughly same exact size coming out of HS, kid has a stout lower body, burst and insanely productive (40 QBHs). JMac was the same.

Weight is more important than height. I mean just in the last 3 years how much edges have we had thar couldn’t add the mass necessary? Moss, Wayne, Rudolph and the jury is still out on Pickett and Lightfoot.

Same as Kancey that went to Pitt.

Like Markel Bell and Jackson Cantwell?
Or maybe Josh Moore?

I know we could go back and forth all day but I don’t think our head coach is targeting smaller recruits. But some smaller players can just play. And the NFL is littered with those guys.

yes. Give me a 6-1, 230 pound DE with long arms, lower body heavy with great burst and production over the prototypical 6-5, 225 guy with some burst, a lot of hype and not as much production but "looks right".

All jokes aside, he is one of the most advanced pass rushers that I’ve seen in quite some time and has incredible bend. He also does appear to have a bigger lower body and longer arms, so there is some upside there. I just can’t remember the last time we really hit on any of these undersized DPR types.

I don’t think you take both him and Charles, and he looks better than Charles to me 🤷🏾‍♂️

C’mon. I wasn’t talking OL. Plenty of other rooms and kids who never passed the eye test and didn’t work out because they never grew in size. Many have left because of it.

I don't know anything about talent evaluation and I get that a lot of people love this kids tape.

But this seems like the perfect type of kid you let flourish at a mid P5 program or G5 program and then recruit out of the portal. You build the relationship now in the event that he does end up popping at another lower tier program.

To think this kid is going to earn early playing time here seems like a longshot. Let him get playing time elsewhere and circle back when he's refined his game.

The problem with that theory is that he is not going to end up at a G5 program. We are literally battling Oklahoma and LSU for his commitment.

th epicture i saw this kid had long *** arms to which could negate only being about 6'1 roughly.

What im going to say is real sack numbers TRANSLATE. If he had 17 sacks....hes gonna be a guy that can get after the qb on the next level
