Since Golden got here in 2010 we‘ve had a number of de-commits each year. Since people on the board have been complaining about all the de-commits we’ve gotten lately I went back to see who these players were and how they turned out.

2011 (10)
We had a bunch of de-commits in the class of 2011 due to firing of Randy Shannon. Here is list of the guys that de-committed or were let go by Golden in 2011. I sorted them by the impact that they would have made at UM. Outside of Teddy, not sure if any of the other players would have made much of an impact here.

Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville) - 1st Round (Vikings) – biggest miss of the class, but he was turned off by the way the fans treat their failed hometown hero Jacory Harris.
Eli Rogers (Louiseville) - Free Agent (Steeler)
Good college career with 176 rec and 2020 yards along with 12 TDs over 4 years. Not sure he would have started at the U over Hurns & Dorsett, but could have been a decent depth guy.
Albert Louis-Jean (Boston College) - undrafted (Bears)
In three seasons at Boston College, played in 21 games, tallying 36 stops (26 solo), 1 Int, 4 PDs and 2 FF
Played in 11 games as sophomore, 21 tackles (15 solo), 1 forced fumbled and 1 PBU
Did not play his true sophomore year due to injury… Was granted a redshirt…
As a true freshman, played in 10 games, making 2 starts... 15 tackles (11 solo), 3 PBUs and an Int
B.J. Dubose (Louisville) - 6th Round (Vikings)
He saw three starts as a redshirt freshman, recording 22 tackles, 3.5 TFL and 2.0 sacks.
Dubose started 4 games as a sophomore and finished with 15 tackles and 0.5 TFL.
Didn't start a game as a junior, but played in 11 and recorded 16 tackles, 4 TFL and 1.5 sacks.
Started as a senior, finishing with 41 tackles, 7.5 TFL and 4.0 sacks and earned an invitation to the 2015 East-West Shrine Game.
Bryon Moore Jr. (Tenn) - undrafted (No team)
Started 12 games as RJr. with 5 ints, backed up as a RSr. with 0 int.
Chase Harper (Nebraska) - DNQ, enrolled at Texas State - Undrafted (No Team)
Had 48 Rec for 602 and 6 Tds in 2 years at Texas State.
Marcus Jackson (Tenn) - RSR at Tenn in 2015, Started 5 games as True Freshmen and was Freshmen All-American. Backed up 12 games as Soph. Redshirted his third year and started 12 games as RJr.
Nick Menocal (Georgia Tech) Left the team after three seasons on the Georgia Tech roster, playing linebacker and defensive end. Menocal played in five games last season and was down on the depth chart this season. Menocal is on track to graduate in December and then will transfer and play his final year of eligibility elsewhere.
Jeremy Davis (UCF) Enrolled at UCF in 2012… Did not see playing time in his freshman season, rather redshirting to retain his eligibility… Worked with the scout team during the 2013 campaign
Transferred to Vethune Cookman in 2014.
Tavadis Glenn (DNQ)

The only 3 guys that we missed out on in 2012 are Northrup, Burgess and Brown. Leggett could not get in and everyone else sucked.

James Burgess Jr. (Louiseville) - 2014: Started 12 games at linebacker.71 tackles, 3.0 sacks, 10.0 TFL, 3 Int. Had 72 tackles in 2013 and 28 in 2011.
Keith Brown (Louiseville) - 2014: Appeared in all 13 games as a reserve... key contributor on all special teams units... totaled 20 tackles in limited action. Had a good Freshmen year but then got injured and missed most of 2013 with redshirt.
Amos "A.J." Leggett (Marshall) - Marshall’s active leader in career interceptions with eight entering his redshirt junior season.
Trenton Taylor (Tennessee) - Palyed in on game at Tenn then left for Butler Comminty college. Signed with Iowa State Cyclones in 2014.
2014: Played in all 12 games, starting eight contests … had the second-most tackles for an ISU down lineman with 37, 2 sacks and 5 TFL.
Willie Bailey (Florida) - Transfered to Virginia Union University.

Levonte "Kermit" Whitfield (FSU)
Wide receiver and kick returner who appeared in all 14 games...had 11 receptions for 145 yards and three carries for 40 yards...led FSU with 665 yards on 32 kick returns
Dazzling freshman who was arguably the fastest player in the nation with the ball in his hands…led the nation in kick return average (36.4), breaking a 59-year-old ACC record in the process

Great post, but just needs to be pointed out:

By nature, most prospects in every class fail, including some of the best classes in history. Classes are judged on the impact guys at the top. And when you see guys like Teddy Bridgewater, a true program defining type of player, or Alex Collins on your list of de-commits it matters a lot more than 5 Travis Johnsons or Jeremy Kerrs.

Too early to tell but so far Ruldoph was the only real miss.

2014
Travis Rudolph (FSU)
ived up to the hype after entering Florida State as one of the top wide receiver prospects in the nation...developed into a No. 2 receiver as the season progressed and finished with 38 receptions for 555 yards and four touchdowns...captured Freshman All-America honors from Athlon Sports and Campus Insiders

Its not just about the decommits its about the misses on SFL elites. From this class theirs a few decommits that hurt the class but what hurts the most is the elite guys not even having us in their top 5

Goes to show how two or three guys go our way and things could be a lot different for Golden. Most of the guys on this list turned out to be no better then the guys we have now. But you hit on a Teddy B, Alex C, and a Travis R and you are back in the thick of things. Hope we can hang onto this Swag 16 class. Or at the very least the studs that are in it..(Allison, Bruce, Shaq, Byrd, etc)

alot of these kids couldnt get into Miami grades wise. I dont think Collins killed us because we have RB talent. Teddy would have been MUCH better than Morris. Other kids would have come here to play with him.

Brandon Powell (Florida)
Played in 11 games as a true freshman, starting twice…Saw time at both running back and receiver…Totaled 16 carries for 70 yards with 1 TD on the ground and had 15 receptions for 147 yards with one receiving TD.

Devante Bond (Nebraska)
DNQ at Miami. Played in 12 of 13 games with starts at outside linebacker in the final three games of the season. Had 29 tackles (18 Solo) and 4 TFL.

Nigel Bethel II (Texas Tech)
Played in nine games (7 starts) with 41 tackles (30 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss and broke up six passes

Travonte Valentine (LSU)
Didn’t suit up for LSU last season because of academic issues. Depending on how the current situation plays out, he may never play a down for the Tigers because of similar issues.

Dalvon Stuckey (ASU)
Did not enroll in the school because of academic reasons. Stuckey posted on his Facebook page that he instead will attend the University of West Georgia, a lower-division school.

Reilly Gibbons (Stanford)
Transfered to USF

Alin Edouard (Syracuse)
Cut by staff. Attended Garden City CC in 2014.

Dennis Turner (FIU)
Cut by staff. 11 rec for 89 yards.

Stuckey I believe just declared for the supplemental draft

Great post, but just needs to be pointed out:

By nature, most prospects in every class fail, including some of the best classes in history. Classes are judged on the impact guys at the top. And when you see guys like Teddy Bridgewater, a true program defining type of player, or Alex Collins on your list of de-commits it matters a lot more than 5 Travis Johnsons or Jeremy Kerrs.

I agree with you 100%, but I just wanted to show that not all de-commits are bad. Kids de-commit for different reasons, looking at the list here are the top 5 reasons:

1a. Coaching Change: (kid does want to play for new HC) - Teddy, AJL
1b. Coaching change: (new coach does not like the kid as much) - Davis, Menocal, D. Taylor, Bailey

2. Not really wanted: (got better commits later or did not develop as expected) - Kerr, T. Johsnon, Allin, kermit

3. Likes another school better: (waiting for offer) - Northrup, Kearse, Southward, T. Taylor

4. Grades: (kid de-commits because he can't qualify) - AJL, Bond, Legget, Burgess, Glenn

5. Other: Collins, Bryant, TV, Brown, Ruldoph

I could argue that:
In 2011 only 1 out of the 10 would have made a major impact here (TB).
In 2012 only 1 out of the 9 would have made a major impact here (Northrup). Probably not as big as FSU since we had Perryman.

The only guy I think that could of potentially changed our record drastically over the past 3-4 years is Teddy. He probably would not have started as a Freshmen either because we still had Harris. He would have been a major upgrade from Morris. Collins would have been nice but we had Duke and he got most of the carries anyway. Kermit would have been nice for the return game but not a program changer. Ruldoph would not have started last year at Miami.

Here is a list of de-commits that I know of who ended up signing with us:

2011:
Olsen Pierre (Temple)
Thomas Finnie (South Carolina) - kicked off
Gionni Paul (Arizona State) - kicked off
Jalen Grimble (USC) - transferred to Oregon State

2012
Robert Lockhart - VT - transferred
Dequan Ivery - Louisville - kicked off
Nate Dortch - North Carolina - transferred
Jawand Blue - VT - kicked off
Antonio Crawford - GT - transferred to WVU

2013
Artie Burns - Alabama
Walter Tucker - Clemson
Derrick Griffin - Texas A&M - DNQ

2014
Joseph Yearby - FSU
Anthony Moten - Florida
Marques Gayot - Louisville
Michael Wyche - USC

2015
Robert Knowles - FIU
Kendrick Norton - FSU

2011 and 2012 were horrible. The only flip we got that lasted is Pierre who was committed to Golden back at Temple. The pattern does not look good for late or signing day filppers... (Finnie, Paul, Grimble, Ivery, Blue, Crawford, Lockhart, Griffin) Tucker is the only guy who flipped late and is contributing.

Players who flip earlier in the process have a better track record: Burns, Moten, Pierre, Yearby, Wyche)

History tells us that all the drama surrounding signing day flips may not be worth the hype, at least here at the U.
