2027 David "DJ" Jacobs 5* DE from Roswell, GA (Blessed Trinity Catholic) Commits to OSU 2.0

I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t think the kid wants to be here. If he wanted to be here, he would’ve committed to us like he was supposed to the day before the Cotton Bowl. And obviously he didn’t, so who knows.

Yep. Sometimes with strong-willed kids, they dig their heels even more when they see everyone around them wanting them to go elsewhere.

You can never count out Mario & Co. Since the class is pretty much done, all their focus will be on trying to flip Jacobs. That's why I have some faith

Indeed! There are always kids that flip, so I wouldn't rule it out. And with Jacobs, it's not just us. A bunch of schools are trying to flip him.

No inside info but this is one I’d check back in December

Our class seems like it’s mostly finished. We will know more about the portal for next year (retention is going to be huge for us again) and we can see how aggressive we can be to flip this kid
Mostly finished, yes. But I think we'll add 2-3 more guys. Maybe one flip and 1-2 kids that emerges as H.S. seniors. There are always a few late-bloomers and Mario seems to pay a lot attention to H.S. Senior year tape performance.

I wouldn't predict Jacobs because we're only 1 of several teams that are still trying to flip him. Although Mario is better than most.

Also have to consider there will likely be a coach or two leaving their programs after this season. Which leaves a good opportunity to flip. So a few of the guys we lost out on in the current cycle could all of a sudden become available after the season.

The class also might be mostly finished but if Mario has a chance to add an elite player, there’s no cap on the class size

I think we are saying the same thing. At this point it’s more about focusing on the season and then you reevaluate later on in the year and make moves accordingly

Retention is going to be crazy expensive this offseason for us. We have a ton of guys likely taking a leap in their 3rd seasons or heading into draft eligibility and there’s lots of elite underclassmen behind them

Just mentioned in another thread projecting out to 2027 team that with reasonable retention the roster is gonna be insane and plug and play ready where it might be too hard and expensive to burn a season with a QB learning on job, portal will have us top team in land, might be too much to pass up..

But that retention is gonna be something SERIOUS, I expect tampering with our WR, RB, Dline, and DBs every dam week, especially when people see our depth at WR and CB. BRING YO CHECKBOOK!

Yeah I have already prepared myself to lose some players that are gonna sting, bad. We’ve done an incredible job of retention so far though but these amazing recruiting classes are about to get expensive

Elijah Lofton alone…. (Couldn’t help it)

I think Mario and staff will be fending off flip attempts left and right til the end just like they will try to flip the likes of Jacobs. Our class is loaded with the best of the best right now, and the other top programs will continue to push, again just like we will.

Maybe it’s me but what if this the type of recruit that does opposite of what everyone expects. Everyone expects Miami to flip so he won’t, they expected him to announce to UM and he didn’t.

Who knows, tough pull especially after we bodied OSU on the edges. Pause
They figure they need help there to make a legit run in the future

That's something that is missed in all the talk of flips. We can be the victim just as easily as we can be the beneficiary of flips. That said, with Mario, it seems the latter will be a more common occurrence.

I've seen this thought on here too much not to respond.

Isn't the best case scenario, with a 1st time starter, is to have a loaded roster to protect him? I think you guys clearly take for granted how lucky we've been with not only the QBs we landed/chose, but also with how they performed. It's a crapshoot. Experience is ideal but it's not always relative.

If we had Dante Moore last year, how do we finish? That's not a gotcha question because the answer isn't important. The reasoning for the answer is. Culture. What we surrounded them with. What we demanded of them.

None of this **** is guaranteed. The reason we are where we are, & those 2 qbs were able to accomplish what they were, is because of Mario. Who he has recruited. How he recruited them. The staff he hired & fired. The standard he holds them to.

Mario saw the landscape of the portal last year & saw that he, at the very least, doesn't want to put all his eggs in that basket.

It's obviously better to have an experienced QB when you want to win a NC. But, assuming relatively equal talent level, is it better to have an experienced guy from elsewhere? Or a guy you raised in your environment with your standards. With the way we have & are currently recruiting the position, that answer isn't going to be so obvious in the future.

Count me in the group that says we dont get him. Like one poster said, I just dont think he wants to be here. This wasnt like Justin Scott who really wanted to be here but his mom didnt want him here. And ultimately we won out. But Jacobs dad and family seem to want him here more then he wants to be. This feels like David Stone all over again. Family wants UM..but ultimately will respect the kids decision.
