David Cooney

Cooney has no technical skill at the position. He worked as a QC under Dugans for less than a season- that’s his WR experience at the college level.

Is he an adequate recruiter? Sure. But that’s why he’s in the role he’s in now. If you want to see your WR’s develop as players, Cooney is probably the worst hire that could be made.

This would just be a bad move. I get that you need to make sure you advance talent from within, but this staff is clearly lacking experience as it is... Cooney recruits well, how about we add another great, proven recruiter as WR coach!?

Who had the best WRs in the country this year? Hard to argue against LSU, isn't it? (Although yes, Bama might have something to say about that).

The LSU WR coach?

Coached WRs at Alcorn State and Grambling State.

Before Coach O grabbed him, he was at Louisiana Tech coaching...……………………..Running Backs.

Again, for the 700th time, you guys put WAY too much stock into coaching WRs. It's a recruiting position. Mickey Joseph got the LSU job because he's a NOLA guy and has extensive recruiting connections in Louisiana.

But sure, Ja'Marr Chase won the Biletnikoff Award because he was being coached by Louisiana Tech's running backs coach.

Would it be the most UM move ever? Yeah, but what seems to get lost on this board is we are not exactly a destination point for a great assistant.

Lashlee was not our #1 choice, a lot of people here bang on their chest and say get X guy like it is some secret. Well, no **** sherlock, its not a secret but if we try and if we get told to F off, we are left with promoting within.

Joe Brady probably had something to do with LSU's success through the air

yep. He worked with them regularly. They loved him. and Brady had a QA assistant guy who worked with the QBs/WR by the name of Munoz that was invaluable. Looks like Aranda is going to steal him to Baylor as the WR coach....

Great post but you’re just wasting your time. These idiots just look for anything to pounce on that they think fits their narratives. Who cares if it’s even true. Just something for the mob to act mobish about.

Who was the top choice? Pretty much every person who knows anything here said Rhett was manure's #1 candidate. Just curious

Wrong. Wrong, Wrong.

Lol at picking partial stats to make an empty point. Joseph had 3 years as a wr coach and like 14 years of collegiate coaching (even a hc as a NAIA school) experience. He had been back and forth at Louisiana high schools and coaching in college. Comparing him to a guy who was.....QC here is a joke.

Plus they perennially underachieved under Joseph as this year proved.

Recruiting matters a lot but they need a good coach. Just stop. Coaches need to do both. This isn't the 80s any longer.

We've been struggling with evals of local kids lately, have several talented kids we've either offered too late or not at all, so what's his role in all of that?
That's what I'm wondering. It's not like that guy is picking up any slack on the recruiting trail...

Brady was the passing game coordinator and assisted with the WRs.

And to @rokulika’s point, of course Brady had **** near everything to do with their passing success. As a passing game coordinator and assistant play caller. It wasn’t because their WRs were coaching so mind-blowingly well. WR coaches in the NFL are usually masterful technicians. In college, they’re recruiters.

Nope. Very, very few are excellent in both areas. Those are the absolute best of the best. They don’t grow on trees. Most guys are coaches or recruiters. Few are truly elite at both.
